Our film THE CONTESTANT will be airing on BBC Four on Tuesday at 22:00 and available to watch on BBC Storyville via iPlayer, thereafter!

Produced over 3 years by Misifts’ own and , the film premiered on overseas in 2024, following a crazy press run with a slew of amazing reviews and billboards in Time Square. We are beyond thrilled that this film has found its home in the UK, and there’s no better place for Nasubi’s stranger than ficition story than .

After an immense premiere last Friday at , in front of a packed out and lively audience – followed by a standing ovation and an inspiring Q & A – our film about the iconic , produced by Misfits’ very own and , executive produced by and directed by , is playing in cinemas nationwide.

It’s been a long journey to get to this point, and we are beyond thrilled to finally put this film out into the world. At a time when the need for stories of love and acceptance is at an all-time high, we hope that our film can help to push the needle in the right direction. THE CONTESTANT WILL PREMIERE ON BBC STORYVILLE, ON 17TH JUNE!

“BBC Storyville has unveiled its Spring slate of international documentaries, led by a Misfits doc following a man who was tricked to take part in a Japanese reality TV show.

McQueen and Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story outfit Misfits Entertainment is behind The Contestant which unpacks how the man – Nasubi – thought he was going to an audition when a TV producer led him into a room, ordered him to strip naked and told him his task was to fill out contest coupons to win what he needed to survive.
Although he could have left at any time, he stayed for 15 months, not knowing his experiences were being broadcast to over 15m people and he had become the most famous television personality in Japan.

The 2023 Hulu film was directed by Claire Titley and combines clips from the show with previously unseen footage and interviews with Nasubi, his family and the show’s producer.

Produced by Megumi Inman, Andee Ryder and Ian Bonhôte, the doc will air on 17 June.”

After its premiere at last month, LOWLAND KIDS is setting sail for Sheffield Doc Fest and Sydney Film Festival in June!

Misfits’ very own is a producer on the film alongside .for.life, , , and . The film is directed by the fantastic .

We are so thrilled to be a part of this beautiful and urgent film, following climate refugees in the American South.

Just when we thought it was over... our SUPER/MAN film has been nominated for a prestigious Peabody Award!

We are very happy to be nominated, especially alongside such a fantastic crop of documentaries. The Peabodys are super (pun intended) special to us as they represent - media narratives that defend public interest and encourage empathy - which deeply aligns with the ethos of our film and that of the entire Reeve family.

It’s an honour to receive this recognition from such an important organisation and we can’t wait to celebrate all of the amazing nominees at the ceremony - Viva La Super/Man!

Team Misfits are very proud to be part of the team behind a new feature doc premiering at CPH:DOX.

LOWLAND KIDS follows two teenagers and their uncle - on Louisiana’s rapidly disappearing Isle de Jean Charles. They face an uncertain future as the U.S. government makes an unprecedented effort to resettle their entire community before the island succumbs to the sea.

Directed by emerging Danish filmmaker Winther and backed by producers Darren Aronofsky and our own Head of Documentary Gillett, the intimate film - which has been over seven years in the making and features music from - follows climate refugees in the American South.

As reported by today, Mosses and her team at Films have acquired international sales rights and are partnering with the film team on an Impact Campaign. We are super happy to be working with Together Films on this documentary and can’t imagine a better partner to help this film land in the world.

Also very happy to be collaborating with aedy from who is an Executive Producer on this film.

Back to the grindstone for Team Misfits!

After the glitz and glamour of the PGA’s and the BAFTA’s we’ve been getting right back to work with a big documentary film shoot in New York and LA.
