Pleased to share that I was recently selected into the inaugural Google for Education Faculty AI Fellowship cohort. I look forward to sharing our experience in helping small businesses through the integration of design thinking and generative AI. Thank you, University of Greenwich Business School for the support!

In this conversation, we speak to Dr. Balakrishnan Muniapan, Senior Teaching Fellow in Human Resource Management at Birmingham City University. He shared about his foundation as a practitioner prior to building a career both as an academic and also a corporate trainer. Dr. Bala also spoke about how networking and stepping out of one's comfort zone are key to long-term success.

I look forward to speaking at the University of Greenwich Research Culture Week as part of the Centre for Research on Employment and Work (CREW) small grant showcase. In this developmental paper, I discuss how middle managers redefine their identity (or not), and react to the growing presence of AI (what else) at the workplace. Do join us if you're on campus!

NeuroCampur is an effort by Dr. Hariharan Narendran, a Malaysian doctor who is currently completing his PhD at the University of Cambridge. The goal is simple: to connect Malaysian academics in the UK with students, fellow academics, and industry practitioners for collaboration and mentorship opportunities.

I don't know how Hari does it but I invite everyone to NeuroCampur.com and explore how its may be useful for you.

Small business owners are some of the most inspiring people I know. They’re clear about their goals, and work their way amidst limited support. Engaging with them taught me about grit, resilience, and resourcefulness.

In this recent conceptual paper in the Journal of Social Impact in Business Research, I discuss how the integration of design thinking and generative AI can help small businesses sustain, innovate, and grow.

The idea is built on my collaborations with local business founders and testing the LUMA Method with them. As much as AI helps, however, it’s no replacement for human judgment. It can make things better, but not without the founder's instinct.

I thank the editors and reviewers for their support. Read here (open access): https://www.emerald.com/jsibr/article/2/3/17/1352651

Last Saturday, instead of catching up with papers (or laundry), about 20 of us Malaysian academics from around the UK made our way to the High Commission to meet up with some of the country’s brightest students who are studying here.

The plan was simple: connect with them, ask how we can help, and sustain the momentum. This was made easier as the students themselves are curious, engaging, and proactive. They’re doing amazing on campus with bright futures ahead.

Thank you, Education Malaysia London Director Dr. Hanafi Damanhuri for having us, and Dr. Ajlaa Mokhtar for leading the programme. The energy was positive, the food was great (as always), and it’s an honour to give back the little that we have for our future leaders. 🇲🇾

Over the past decade, I’ve been fortunate to meet many amazing individuals who studied while working full-time. These encounters also taught me about their balancing act in juggling family, work, and study. Now that I’m in higher education myself, I discuss in this Times Higher Education article the small changes that institutions can make to make the journey more seamless.
