We found another Merdeka read at Toko Buku Rakyat where we met author Benz Ali. He’s one of Malaysia’s prolific thinkers, so please check out his writings.

The book we picked up is Insang: Cerita Memancing Malaysia (Gills: The Malaysian Fishing Stories). It’s an anthology of short stories about fishing, published by The Milkfish Lady. There are articles on fishing techniques, essays and an interesting story on the mystical world of fishing. What not to like.

We don’t fish ourselves but we’re from a nice seaside town; so this book is perfect for our home library there.

Wisma Central is 2-minute walk from the Petronas Twin Towers.

We popped round TOKOSUE at Wisma Central, Kuala Lumpur today and picked up two books: Memori Untuk Dijual (Memory For Sale) a collection of short stories by Sue Emoqwin and The Pottu Story, a colourful photo zine by Ishwerya Kinesh. We love the bindi pack.

TOKOSUE also hosts events like zine workshops, poetry recitations and reading. So if you’re in KL, please give them a visit.

Wisma Central is a charming enterprise complex, right opposite the Petronas Twin Towers. We’re delighted to find print shops, express postal service and fabulous cafes there. Just what working
writers need.

Selamat Hari Merdeka! Happy Independence Day, Malaysia 🇲🇾 A glorious evening with a rousing song and fireworks at the stroke of midnight to mark the nation’s 68th anniversary.

Thank you Laman Karya Lumut - LAKAR for organising Merdeka Lah Seni, an evening of poetry, songs and culture by the seaside. The event will continue on Malaysia Day weekend in September. Visit Lumut and Perak maritime district of Seri Manjung for the holiday seasons.
