Property developers are taking the p**s! And, Hackney Council's failure to sign Ridley Road Shopping Village at Ridley Road Market as a community asset leaves traders facing eviction - again! Right now traders are occupying the building, and don't have any electricity and this is a call out for community power (literally) and assistance. Please, if you can help, get in touch with
To : What an effin liberty! 😪 You know you could have sorted this but you didn't - Sorry for cursing, but, in 2022, traders knocked back Larochette Real Estate and agents Rainbow Properties plans to evict and replace them with luxery flats and offices.
It was the brilliant local campaign that forced them to keep the indoor market open. In turn, they promised a renovation and support for indoor traders, artists and crafts people. the Council agreed to sign the building up as a community asset and things were looking up. But as old-time people say, "mouth mek fi sey anyting" and Larochette and the Council showed their true colours: No consultations with tenants resulting in a shoddy makeover - no heating, unfinished workmanship, no cafe to give shoppers a place to sit and no windows etc (OK, OK, the toilets are much improved). The landlords cruel and rellentless in strategy: Traders on trumped up charges from 3 Yrs ago, have suddenly been cautioned, and eviction notices have been issued. Last week the local community galvanised, warded off bailiffs and are now helping traders to occupy the building.
So why didn't Hackney sign the building up as an asset? And, who are Larochette Real Estate's Inc (registered offshore in the Virgin Isles)? And, who are their agents, the West Hampstead-based Rainbow Properties ('Rainbow'?? Really???).
What we can be absolutely certain of is that fighting these developers is a fight inside the belly of the beast. We have to be ready because these lot are underhanded.
Big up Ridley Road Indoor Market traders, support , come down to Ridley tomorrow for family arts and crafts, donate lights, generators, etc as traders got no electricity.
One love! 🩵
