Costco’s famous $1.50 hot dog and soda combo has stayed the same price since 1985 and there’s a reason for it.
When future CEO Craig Jelinek once suggested raising the price because the combo was losing money, co-founder Jim Sinegal reportedly replied:
“If you raise the f*ing hot dog, I will kill you. Figure it out.”
So Costco did exactly that. The company brought more of its hot dog production in-house to cut costs and protect the $1.50 price.
Decades later, the combo still costs the same.
Possibly the most aggressively defended bargain in retail history. 😂
