We first encountered Pitch Innovations when we featured its Eternal Arps app in our modern arpeggiator tutorial, When Is An Arp Not Just An Arp? Now the company is back with its latest, erm, innovation, Fluid Chords 2, an update to its rather unique MPE MIDI chord bender.

The original Fluid Chords, which won the MIDI Innovation Award in 2022, offered you a way to bend notes between chords, sort of like polyphonic portamento. The latest version of expands on the original with a number of new features, including real-time performance enhancements and a built-in sound engine.

Happy Birthday legend!

Few people have influenced music in the way that Tom Oberheim has. Since he started making effects pedals for Maestro in the late 1960s, and then instruments under his own name, his musical inventions have appeared on songs by Prince, New Order, Michael Jackson, and many more.

But what does the man himself think of how his synthesizers and drum machines like the Four Voice, OB-Xa and DMX have been used?

We sat down with him on a recent morning at Oberheim’s headquarters in San Francisco to find out.

Resident Advisor’s database has a total of 134,147 DJ profiles scattered across the global club scene. Just 21,351 — a mere 16% of all profiles — have at least one future booking as of May 26, 2025. These are your “active” DJs.

Dig deeper, and you’ll find 14,327 who show both experience (20+ career gigs) and current activity. But at the very top? Just 2,175 DJs with five or more upcoming shows. That’s 1.6% of the total.

Like any competitive creative industry, electronic music concentrates opportunities for a tiny percentage of the total. The interesting question isn’t whether this is good or bad, but what it means for navigating today’s DJ landscape.
