Quentin Blake’s illustrations have delighted and inspired generations of readers for decades.

Best known for his collaborations with writers like Roald Dahl and John Yeoman, Blake’s whimsical drawings have also moved beyond the page to show up in some rather unexpected places.

Claudia Zeff, author of 'Not for Art's Sake' sat down with Quentin Blake discuss his commissioned and site-specific work, from hospital wings and prisons to the side of a four-storey building.

'It is fastidious attention to detail that marks out the superlative from the good.'

On the anniversary of his death, we remember the designer Kenneth Grange (1929–2024), whose innovative creations have touched the lives of almost every consumer worldwide and cemented him as one of the most influential industrial designers of the modern age.

Grange was the mind behind such recognizable products as domestic appliances for Kenwood, post boxes for Royal Mail, lighting for Anglepoise and the InterCity 125 high speed train for British Rail. His design work spanned multiple industries and helped to shape modern material culture.

One such design was the Kodak Instamatic – a camera so popular it became a cultural phenomenon and introduced amateur photography to a whole new audience.

In this extract from ‘Kenneth Grange: Designing the Modern World,’ published last year, author Lucy Johnston explores Grange’s time designing for Kodak and the birth of this invention.

Since the first dinosaur bones were unearthed and identified by William Buckland in the 19th century, there has been a frenzy of research to better understand how these creatures lived and what they looked like.
