ANC UK invites you to a special screening of the award-winning documentary "There Was, There Was Not" at the Navasartian Centre. The film follows four women from Artsakh, telling the story of their lives before, during, and after the war that led to the erasure of their homeland. Following the screening, we will host a Q&A with Emily Mkrtichian (director) and Siranush Sargsyan.

Attendance is £10pp (cash only, there is an ATM near the Navasartian centre at Sainsbury's). Half the proceeds will be donated to the Askeran Development Center (Ասկերանի զարգացման կենտրոն).

Emily Mkrtichian is an award-winning American-Armenian filmmaker and writer. Her films touch on themes of memory, place, and identity, and have traveled to film festivals around the world and been broadcast on major European TV channels. Siranush Sargsyan is one of the four women of Artsakh featured in the film. She is a freelance journalist, and advocate for human rights and empowerment of women. She is currently studying Human Rights Advocacy at the Nova School of Law (Lisbon, Portugal), one of Europe’s leading institutions for human rights education.

About The Askeran Development Center (ADC): The ADC is a non-profit NGO based in Yerevan, focused on supporting displaced women through skills programs and organising local children's activities, aiming to foster community resilience. The group was originally based in the Askeran region of Artsakh; even during the severe blockade in Artsakh in 2023, operations at the center remained active, their programs providing a safe haven for women and children. We are calling for the Government to formally recognise the killing of an estimated 1.5 Million Armenians by the Ottoman Empire from 1915-1923 as genocide. The Government states that "any determination as to whether genocide has occurred is a matter for a competent national or international court".

Հայաստանեայց Առաքելական Սուրբ եկեղեցւոյ դէմ ՀՀ իշխանութիւններուն սանձազերծած յարձակումներուն ու հալածանքներուն եւ հակազգային գործունէութեան ի տես, Հ.Յ.Դ. Բիւրոն բացարձակապէս անընդունելի կը գտնէ այդ բոլորին հեղինակ անձը արժանացնել Կիլիկիոյ կաթողիկոս Ն․Ս․Օ․Տ․Տ Արամ Ա.-ի յատուկ ուշադրութեան, ինչ որ արդարօրէն յառաջացուցած է Սփիւռքի եւ Հայրենիքի հայ հանրութեան բուռն ընդվզումը:

Հայրենիքի մէջ տեղի ունեցածը ծրագրուած յարձակում է ոչ միայն Հայ եկեղեցուոյ, այլ հաւատաւոր ողջ հայ ժողովուրդին, անոր ինքնութեան եւ ազգային նկարագիրին վրայ, եւ երբեք կարելի չէ զայն ընկալել իբրեւ եկեղեցւոյ եւ պետութեան միջեւ հակամարտութիւն:

Այս օրերուն ՀՀ իշխանութիւններուն կողմէ բարձրաստիճան հոգեւորականներու կալանաւորումներն ու եկեղեցուոյ թիրախաւորման դատապարտելի վարքագիծը հրամայական պահանջ կը ստեղծէ՝ Հայաստանեայց Առաքելական Սուրբ Եկեղեցւոյ կաթողիկոսական աթոռներուն համընդհանուր ճիգերով պաշտպանել հայ ժողովուրդի կեանքին մէջ բացառիկ ազգային արժէք ներկայացնող եկեղեցին:

Մեր յորդորն է, որ Հայ Առաքելական Սուրբ Եկեղեցւոյ երկու Կաթողիկոսներու սերտ համագործակցութեամբ եւ իրենց շուրջ համախմբուած մեր ժողովուրդի անմնացորդ աջակցութեամբ՝ Հայ Եկեղեցին պաշտպանուի ամէն տեսակ քանդիչ, հայ ժողովուրդի ինքնութիւնը խաթարող եւ նսեմացնող ներքին ու արտաքին ոտնձգութիւններէն:
