British composer Thomas Farnon, known for his work on Mammals, Our Planet II and Expeditions: Rome, has unveiled ‘Prawn Tails’ 🦐 a first taste from his upcoming album ‘The Best Complex’ coming 20 November.

Recorded, mixed and mastered in our house between Studios Two, Three, The Front Room, Angel Studios and Room 7 with an engineering team comprised of Alex Ferguson, Alex Wharton, Tom Ashpitel, Annie Gasiorowski, Ben Fitzegerald and Killian Corless, the project explores past memories, success, and anxiety, pushing his lifelong ideas into a deeply personal and vulnerable space.

Thomas says, “Bringing together techniques from the different musical worlds I love - be it the language of sampling from hip hop and applying it to the world of modern classical, having a symphony orchestra imitate the slides on a Moog, or recording drink cans opening and using them as a marching band - this album has had an obsessive amount of love, thought and soul put into it.

Production was incredibly important to this album, and I wanted everything to feel very human, with every part of the process being a self-soothing antidote to AI, and each note played by a real musician. I wanted synths to live alongside more traditional instruments and swap their roles, so the synths - all played live - have been pumped out into the walls of Studio Two at Abbey Road and re-recorded, so they have the fabric of the building, and its history encased in every note, whilst the players have, in part, imitated electronic instruments.”

30 years. Countless sessions. One extraordinary career ❤️

Three decades ago, Andrew Dudman walked through the doors of our home as a Tonmeister student, ready to learn. Today, he’s one of our leading recording engineers, with a career spanning film, video games, classical, pop, rock, jazz, electronic and everything in between.

From Star Wars, The Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter to Gravity, Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy and KPop Demon Hunters, Andrew has helped bring some of cinema and gaming’s most recognisable worlds to life 🎬

He’s also worked with artists including Underworld, Elbow, Sigur Rós, Jamie Cullum, Royal Blood, Justice and most recently RAYE, across an extraordinary range of music 🎶

But perhaps the most lasting part of Andrew’s 30 years at Abbey Road is what he’s passed on... The knowledge shared with him when he first arrived. The craft he’s spent a lifetime refining. And now, the knowledge he shares with the next generation of engineers.

Congratulations, Andrew. Here’s to everything you’ve brought to Abbey Road, and everything still to come ❤️
