The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has arrested the founder and General Overseer of The Turn of Mercy Church, Adefolusho Olasele, also known as Abbas Ajakaiye, over his alleged role in multiple shipments of illicit drugs from Ghana to Nigeria.

Olasele, who had been on the run for months, was apprehended on Sunday, August 3, 2025, at his church in Okun Ajah, Lekki, Lagos.

A statement on Sunday by the agency’s spokesman, Femi Babafemi, said operatives waited until the end of the Sunday service before arresting him as he stepped out of the premises.

According to him, the pastor fled to Ghana in June to evade arrest after operatives linked him to two cannabis seizures — 200kg recovered at Okun Ajah Beach on June 4 and 700kg found in his delivery van on July 6.

“After months of fleeing abroad to evade arrest, the founder and General Overseer of The Turn of Mercy Church, Prophet Adefolusho Aanu Olasele (alias Abbas Ajakaiye) has been arrested for masterminding multiple shipments of illicit drugs into Nigeria.

“Prophet Adefolusho was arrested at his church located in Okun Ajah, Ogombo road, Lekki area of Lagos on Sunday, 3rd August 2025 by NDLEA officers who waited for him since morning to conclude the Sunday worship service in the evening before moving in on him the moment he stepped out of the church premises.

“The arrest came after he had evaded arrest twice and fled to Ghana to hide since June, when operatives started trailing him following the seizure of two shipments of Ghana Loud, a strain of cannabis linked to him. The first seizure of 200kg of the psychoactive substance was made at Okun Ajah beach on 4th June 2025, while another consignment of 700kg of the same substance was recovered from his delivery van on 6th July 2025,” the statement read.

In his statement, Babafemi claimed the pastor confessed to ferrying the consignments via waterways from Ghana.

He said, “In his statement, he admitted ferrying the illicit consignments through the waterways from Ghana into Nigeria, adding that he had fled to the West African country to hide after he escaped arrest twice in the recent past.”

In a separate operation in Lagos on Thursday, August 7, Babafemi said NDLEA operatives raided an apartment at Parkview Estate, Ikoyi, where they arrested Benjamin Ukoh and recovered 32 pouches of Canadian Loud, weighing 15.63kg.

“In Nasarawa State, NDLEA operatives on Saturday, August 9, recovered a large consignment of skunk, a strain of cannabis weighing 3,093 kilograms from the trio of Emmanuel Asoquo Johnny, 51; Okem Raphael, 33, and Chekwube Odo, 25, at New Karu area of the state.

“While 29-year-old Nura Yahaya was nabbed at Geza area of Kumbotso Kano State with 639 blocks of skunk weighing 359kg on Friday 8th August, another suspect Umar Adamu Umar, 27, was taken into custody on Wednesday 6th August by NDLEA officers after seizing 9kg of Colorado, a synthetic strain of cannabis from him along Zaria-Kano road, Kano, ” the statement added.

The Senate on Tuesday said the Federal Government was preparing to clear the outstanding N81bn owed as backlog of N-Power allowances in 2022 and 2023.

This development followed a meeting convened by the Deputy President of the Senate, Barau Jibrin, who brokered dialogue between the Federal Government, representatives of the aggrieved N-Power beneficiaries, and their counsel, Abba Hikima.

Speaking to journalists after the closed-door meeting, Barau disclosed that the discussions were fruitful and had led to an understanding that payment arrangements were already underway.

“The beneficiaries came here to the Senate to seek my intervention. I called the minister, and he responded positively.

“We held a very fruitful discussion that assured the beneficiaries that the government is actively making preparations to settle the backlog,” he said.

“Having seen the clear commitment of the government, they have agreed to suspend legal action.

“This is a responsive government under President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, and no one will be denied what is rightfully theirs,” Barau added.

Echoing the Senate’s position, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, explained that the debt arose from unpaid allowances captured in the 2022 and 2023 budgets but rolled over without being funded.

“We acknowledge that we owe them. These arrears were part of the 2022 and 2023 recurrent budgets, but there was no provision for them in the 2024 and 2025 budgets.

“We approached the service-wide vote and got an approval late last year. Now, we’re working to activate the payment in the current fiscal year. As a responsible government, we will resolve this before the year ends,” he assured.

Hikima, who represented the N-Power beneficiaries, confirmed that litigation was being suspended due to the assurances given during the Senate-brokered meeting.

“The government owes my clients about N81 billion. The minister has assured us that once the 2025 budget implementation kicks off, payments will commence.

“We appreciate the Senate Deputy President and other government officials for stepping in,” Hikima said.

Chairman of the N-Power beneficiaries, Kehinde James, thanked Barau and the ministers involved for their intervention and commitment to settling the long-standing arrears.

The N-Power programme, a flagship social intervention initiative, has faced delays and funding gaps in recent years, sparking protests and legal threats from unpaid participants

Jota started his career with Paços de Ferreira, before signing for La Liga club Atlético Madrid in 2016. After two seasons in the Primeira Liga, he was consecutively loaned to Primeira Liga club FC Porto in 2016 and EFL Championship club Wolverhampton Wanderers in 2017. Having helped them gain promotion to the Premier League, he joined the club in 2018 for a reported €14 million and made 131 appearances for them, scoring 44 goals. In 2020, he signed for Liverpool for a fee reported to be £41 million.

Jota was a former Portugal youth international, representing his country at under-19, under-21, and under-23 levels.[7][8] He made his senior international debut in November 2019 and was chosen in the squads for the 2022 World Cup and two European Championships (2020 and 2024).[5] He also won the UEFA Nations League in 2019 and 2025.

Jota and his brother, André Silva, were killed in a car crash in Cernadilla, Spain, on 3 July 2025.[9][10]

A WORD SPOKEN 7 YEARS AGO AND STILL BURNING TRUE TODAY

“Whoso sheddeth man’s blood, by man shall his blood be shed: for in the image of God made he man.”
-Genesis 9:6

Over 7 years ago, this counsel was declared boldly…
Sadly, it’s still just as relevant; maybe even more in the times we live in now.

Self-defense is not a sin.
Preserving life is not a crime.

Whatever a person does to prevent being killed or to stop another from being destroyed is not an offense before God or conscience.

Because you are made in the image of God, your life carries worth that must be defended.

It’s time to say:
ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.

Evil must not go unchecked.

Self Defense is your right 🔑

Your life is not at the mercy of wicked men.
You were made in the image of God, and His covenant over you is a shield that never fails.

We will not be silent.
We will not give up.
We will continue to pray because we have a prayer answering God!

He’s watching, He’s working And He will respond.

In the name of Jesus Christ no evil shall come near your dwellings 🔥👏

How the fixture came about
Just as the idea for the European Champion Clubs' Cup came to fruition after French newspaper L'Equipe's assertion that Stade de Reims Champagne could be the best club side in Europe, the idea for a UEFA Super Cup came from a Dutch source just when Dutch clubs, and more particularly Ajax, ruled supreme in Europe.

The competition was the brainchild of Anton Witkamp, then a reporter and later sports editor of Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf. Witkamp came up with the idea of "something new" to decide definitively the top club side in Europe, and to further test Ajax's ability. "The idea was conceived in the era of total football. Our era – four consecutive European Cups between Feyenoord and Ajax," he explained. "More than money and glory, they were pursuing the right to be called the best.

"But who was the strongest team in Europe, which team ought to have been the strongest? The team that won the European Cup? In principle, yes. Yet football is often a hymn to relativity and, for this reason, can be an imprecise art. So why not pit the holders of the European Champion Clubs' Cup against the winners of the Cup Winners' Cup? Why not throw down a challenge to Ajax?

"Rangers had won the Cup Winners' Cup in 1972. I put forward my plan to the Ajax boss [Jaap] van Praag, who found it an excellent idea. Consequently, the way was clear, with the patronage of my newspaper."

Witkamp and Van Praag sought official endorsement for the new competition from European football's governing body, but none was forthcoming, largely because Rangers were under a one-year suspension from UEFA due to the misbehaviour of their supporters. However, the match went ahead, albeit in an unofficial capacity, as the Scottish club, who were having centennial celebrations that year, willingly obliged. Witkamp decided on a two-legged format to maximise revenue for both clubs.

The games, financially backed by De Telegraaf, the best-selling paper in the Netherlands, took place on 16 and 24 January in Glasgow and Amsterdam respectively. Goals from Johnny Rep, Cruyff and Arie Haan gave Ajax a 3-1 victory in Glasgow, while Alex McDonald scored Rangers' goal. McDonald was on the mark again in the second leg along with Quentin Young, but they were again outgunned with Haan, Gerd Mühren and Cruyff scoring in a 3-2 win.

The first UEFA-sanctioned Super Cup matches took place in January 1974, although it was officially the 1973 final. The first UEFA Super Cup proper took place at San Siro, where Ajax lost 1-0 to AC Milan. Ajax made no mistake in the return leg in Amsterdam and won 6-0.

Though Witkamp's raison d'être of celebrating Ajax had been emphatically achieved, the competition still took time to take off. Indeed, there was no 1974 contest with Bayern München and Magdeburg unable to find a mutually convenient date. Liverpool could not make space to meet Dinamo Tbilisi in 1981 and could only find one date to play Juventus in 1984.

This was one of the three times the UEFA Super Cup was played as a single match before the current format began in 1998. The other one-off ties came in 1991, when the political situation compelled Manchester United and Crvena zvezda to meet only at Old Trafford, and 1986, when Steaua Bucureşti and Dinamo Kyiv played the first Super Cup at the Stade Louis II in Monaco.

The competition took up permanent residence in Monaco between 1998 and 2012, with the match played to signal the start of the season. After the last UEFA Cup Winners' Cup in 1999, the UEFA Champions League winners took on the UEFA Cup victors (UEFA Europa League from 2010) and the trophy is now contested in a different Europe city each year
