📍 Houndsditch, Early 1900s – A Hub of History & Trade 🏙️

In the early 1900s, Houndsditch was a bustling marketplace, famous for its shops and stalls selling every type of clothing—new and secondhand. It was home to the iconic Houndsditch Warehouse, often called the “Selfridges of the Jewish Quarter.” 🏬✨

But did you know? The street’s name comes from a ditch that once surrounded the City of London’s walls, used as a dumping ground for all kinds of waste… including dead dogs. 🐕💀

Houndsditch also made headlines in 1910 with the Houndsditch Murders, when a group of Latvian anarchists attempted to rob a jewelry shop, leading to a deadly clash with police. This event set the stage for the infamous Siege of Sidney Street in 1911. 🔥⚔️

From trade to true crime, Houndsditch was at the heart of London’s history. Have you ever explored this area? Let us know in the comments! 👇

Marble Arch, designed by John Nash in 1827, was originally intended as a grand gateway to Buckingham Palace. Relocated to its current spot near Hyde Park in 1851, it stands as an iconic London landmark. Though never used for its royal purpose, it remains a symbol of London’s history and a gateway to Speaker’s Corner, where free speech thrives.
