Warning for young drivers, who recently passed their test.
43% of Drivers Confess to a Crime That Could Cost YOU £12,000

Recently got your license? Huge congrats! But listen up: The road is full of experienced drivers breaking the law, and you can't afford to make their mistakes.
New research reveals that roughly two out of five motorists, 40%, have confessed to reading or sending texts while behind the wheel in the past year. This isn't just risky driving—it's a criminal offence.
Here is the essential, updated warning about the devastating true cost of using your phone while driving:
________________________________________
1. 🛑 Licence REVOKED: The 6-Point Trap
In the UK, if you are a newly qualified driver (passed your test in the last two years), you are on a strict probationary licence.
• The Offence: Using a handheld mobile phone for any reason (texting, checking social media, taking photos/videos) while driving.
• The Penalty: An instant £200 fine and 6 penalty points on your licence. (Penalties doubled in 2022 to hit harder!)
• The Consequence: Because you lose your licence if you hit 6 points under the New Drivers Act, one single moment of distraction means your licence is immediately REVOKED. You must re-apply and pass both the theory and practical tests again.
________________________________________
2. 💸 The Staggering £12,000 True Cost
The initial £200 fine is pocket change compared to the total financial burden, according to IAM RoadSmart:
Expense Estimated Cost Details
Insurance Surge £10,675 A 19-year-old male driver with a CU80 (mobile phone) endorsement could see their premium skyrocket by this amount over several years.
Alternative Travel £700 Costs for getting to work/college via public transport or taxis while banned.
New Licence Fees £}800 Covering the fine, refresher lessons, new theory test, and new practical test fees after revocation.
TOTAL BURDEN £12,000 A single decision costs more than many cars!
________________________________________
3. 📸 It’s Not Just Texting: The New Danger
The problem goes beyond just reading texts. The research also revealed:
• 1 in 3 young drivers (aged 17-24) admitted to taking photos or videos using a handheld device while driving.
• 1 in 8 young drivers admitted to texting on at least half of their journeys.
This is why police forces classify mobile phone use as one of the "Fatal Four" causes of serious collisions.
🔥 Pro Tip: Hands-free technology is standard now, yet half of younger drivers still hold their devices. If the phone is out of your sight (e.g., in the glovebox), the temptation to pick it up is gone. Commit to zero handheld use.
Passing your test was the starting line, not the finish line. Don't throw away your new freedom £12,000 for a text message.
Drive safe!

Motorbike accident, Not Your Fault! Do You STILL Have To Pay Your Excess to Hastings Direct? 🤯
You've been knocked off or your pride and joy has been damaged, and you know for a fact the car driver was 100% to blame. You call your insurer, Hastings Direct, ready to get the bike fixed... but then they ask you for the excess upfront.
It’s a massive kick in the teeth, right? Why should you pay for someone else's mistake?
This is one of the most common and frustrating questions in UK motorcycle insurance. Here’s the deal—with Hastings Direct (and most other insurers), is yes, you typically have to pay your excess upfront, even when the accident clearly wasn't your fault.
• According to Hastings, once the other driver's insurer accepts fault, they should repay the full cost of the claim, including your excess, to your insurer. Good luck with that!
Luckily, instead of claiming through your own insurer, you can call EasiGo. They will claim for everything, directly off the other insurer. Whether you Fully Comp or only Third Party, you will pay no excess nor any other costs.

URGENT WARNING! 🛵 Don't Fall for the 'Crash for Cash' Moped Scam Stealing Your Identity 🚨
A dangerous new form of "crash for cash" fraud is targeting drivers, and the goal isn't just a simple insurance payout—it's identity theft.
Please read, share, and protect your friends and family!
The Scenario: How the Scam Works
Imagine this common, relatable situation:
You're waiting for the light to change, when suddenly, you feel a slight bump and realize a moped has grazed your vehicle.
1. The Collision: You get out. The damage is minimal—a scratch, perhaps.
2. The Insistence: The moped driver seems shaken and insists they need a photo of your driving licence or insurance documents "to sort out the claim" quickly.
3. The Hidden Trap: This collision was orchestrated. By letting them photograph your documents, you are giving them the keys to a much bigger crime!
The REAL Threat: ID Theft & Fraud
The details they take are NOT just used to make a minor claim. They are used to:
-Take out bogus motor insurance policies in YOUR name.
- Make fraudulent claims using those new, fake policies.
The ultimate goal is identity theft, leaving you to deal with the fallout of fraudulent activity linked to your name and address.
The Scale of the Problem
According to the Insurance Fraud Bureau (IFB), this scam is on the rise:
• Over 1,100 fraudulent motor insurance policies were taken out using stolen details between summer 2024 and March of this year alone.
• Targeted Areas: Drivers are being hit in London and parts of the Home Counties.

• How to Protect Yourself: Your Action Plan
If you are involved in a minor collision with a moped and they ask for your details, DO NOT hand over your physical documents or let them take photos.
1. Call the Police: Report the collision immediately. Tell the moped driver you are calling the police before sharing any details.
2. Take Your Own Photos: Focus on the moped, the number plate, and the rider's face (if safe).
3. Exchange Details SAFELY: Only exchange name and phone number. Inform them that all official documentation will go through your respective insurance companies.
4. Contact Your Insurer: Report the incident to your insurer right away, even if you don't plan to make a claim. This creates an official record.

Car not repairable/ written off- will your insurer supply a courtesy car?
It is impossible to state an exact number of UK motor insurers that provide a courtesy car when your vehicle is declared a total loss (written off). This is because the provision of a courtesy car in a total loss situation is generally considered an optional extra or an enhanced benefit, not a standard feature of most basic comprehensive policies.
Here is a summary of the common practices in the UK insurance market:
1. Standard Courtesy Car (for Repairs Only)
• The vast majority of comprehensive car insurance policies (often cited as over 90%) include a standard courtesy car.
• Crucially, this is usually only for the duration of the repairs and requires you to use the insurer's approved garage network.
• If the garage assesses the vehicle and declares it a total loss (not repairable/uneconomical to repair), the insurer's obligation to provide the standard courtesy car usually ends immediately, and you are asked to return it within a few days of the write-off decision or settlement.
2. Courtesy Car for Total Loss/Theft (Optional Cover)
To get a replacement vehicle when your car is written off or stolen, you almost always need to have either:
• Optional Hire Car Cover: Many insurers offer this as an add-on (for an extra premium). This coverage is broader than a standard courtesy car and typically provides a hire vehicle for a set period (e.g., 14,days) after the vehicle is declared a total loss or is stolen, allowing you time to find a replacement.
• Premium/Enhanced Comprehensive Policy: Some of the top-tier, more expensive comprehensive policies may include this total loss vehicle replacement benefit as standard.

However, if the accident was not your fault, call EasiGo Accident Management- they will sort out the liability & once that is done, lend you a car until you have been paid out. The cost is recovered from the at fault . This applies whether you are fully Comp, or only third party.

UK Car Insurance Payouts: Are You Covered for What You Think?

Did you know that in the UK, your car insurer is generally NOT required to pay you the value you estimated your car was worth when you took out the policy?
For most drivers with standard car insurance, the payout is based on one key figure:
Market Value
If your car is written off (a total loss) or stolen, your insurer will pay out the market value of the vehicle at the time of the loss.
What does this mean?
• It's what it would cost to buy a car of the same make, model, age, mileage, and condition on the open market today.
• Because most cars lose value over time (depreciation), this figure is usually less than what you originally paid for the car or what you told the insurer it was worth months ago.

If you own a classic, high-performance, or heavily modified vehicle, you may have an Agreed Value Policy.
• With this specialist cover, you and the insurer agree on a fixed payout amount at the start of the policy.
• If the worst happens, this is the guaranteed amount you will receive.

Have Outstanding Finance?
If your car is on finance, the insurer's market value payout will first go to cover any outstanding loan. If the payout is less than your debt, you are responsible for the remaining balance.

Top seven reasons for your insurance policy being voided.
1.Giving an incorrect main address
Motor insurance premiums can vary depending on the postcode, as some areas have higher rates of thefts and break-ins. It can be tempting to put down your home address as somewhere -eg; parents’ house.
2. Failing to disclose motoring convictions
If you fail to tell your insurer of any motoring convictions, they will check your record, in the event of a claim. If you have failed to disclose any convictions, they will immediately void your policy.
3. Use of car for work travel.
If you use your car for work purposes, for example using it to get to meetings, or carrying equipment, you will need to get business cover.
4. Not informing your insurer about any car modifications
Car modifications can affect your insurance premium for two reasons; if they increase the likelihood of an accident, or if they increase the likelihood of theft.
5. Not informing your insurance company of accidents.
Even if you don’t claim through your own insurer, but off the other insurance company, there will be a record of this. Your insurer will check, if you need to make a claim. If you fail to disclose even a non fault accident, they will void your policy.
6. ‘Fronting’
Insurance for young drivers costs more than for a low risk driver, such as a parent or partner, named as the main policy holder, and adding the real motorist as a named driver.
If you get caught ‘fronting’, your policy will immediately be cancelled, and any claims denied. These cases are often taken to court, too, as it is classed as insurance fraud, and fines of up to £5,000 and six points on your licence can be imposed.
7. Letting other people drive your car
While it’s possible for your friends or family to have insurance policies that allow them to drive other people’s cars, it is unlikely these policies cover damage

WARNING- The Dangers of having an Accident with No MOT.
New research shows that over 10 million motorists are driving with expired MOTs; on average the MOT is more than 2 months out of date. Almost 20% of these do it repeatedly; with younger drivers (18-34) five times as likely to do so than drivers over the age of 55.

If you have a crash, with no MOT, your insurer could refuse to pay out. Even if it was not your fault, you may get no help, and the other insurer may try to refuse your claim. Certainly, you would not be entitled to a courtesy car, since yours’s should have not been on the road.

All UK registered vehicles are on a database, which shows tax, insurance & MOT status. ANPR cameras etc can pick up on cars with invalid MOTs; you could be stopped at the roadside or find your car clamped.

It is an offense to use a vehicle that has not had its MOT, and is punishable by any of the following;
Fixed £60 penalty notice
A fine of up to £1000
Charge of 6-8 penalty points
Potential impounding of your vehicle.

Dealing with Disputed Road accident Claims.

Unfortunately, what seems like a clear-cut case, often ends up in frustration, cost & delay, for the innocent party. There are 2 major reasons for this;
1. The third-party insurers ask their driver if the accident was their fault. If the driver says they are not to blame, then the insurer will deny liability (often, the other driver will lie, not understand the Highway Code, or simply feel they can't be to blame). Many insurers do not ask for a detailed explanation, but simply send out an accident report form.
2. The other driver has not informed their insurer- so the insurer simply says we have not been notified, and deny liability.
The knock-on effect of this is that your insurer then tells you the claim is disputed, and that you will have to pay any excess / not be entitled to a courtesy car/ or no help at all until it is resolved.
Fortunately, there is a solution. If you call EasiGo Accident Management, we will make our own decision as to liability; having reviewed any video footage & spoken to any independent witnesses.
If we conclude it is not your fault, we will arrange any repairs, supply a replacement vehicle to use, and, if applicable, deal with any serious injury & lost earnings claim.
For expert help & advice, you can contact us 7 days a week, on 0330 0226781.

If I claim directly off the other insurer, do I need to inform my own insurance Co?
Yes, you do. A lot of people think if they allow the other insurer to handle their claim, they don’t need to inform their own. Same goes if an accident management company sorts it out for you.
This is 100% WRONG. For at least the last ten years, insurers have shared a database, that shows all claims, and the drivers involved. If you do not inform your insurer, the next time you claim, they will check the database, and discover you claimed off someone else.
In fact, some insurers check at renewal time, and will penalise you for non disclosure.
So what’s the answer? We tell our clients to simply inform their insurance once we have sorted out the other driver is liable.
The expression to use is that you are ‘informing the insurer as a matter of record only, and that no action is required. ‘ You can tell them EasiGo have an admission of liability from the other insurer, and that it is a non fault claim.

“Will a non-fault accident affect my insurance?”
According to Admiral, the UK’s largest car insurer;
“Your No claims Bonus (NCB) is not affected if you’re not at fault for an incident and we recover all the money back from the third-party insurers”
As with all insurance companies, the devil is in the detail. They have to have recovered all the money back. Until that happens, it is classed as an ‘open claim’.
This means that if it is still open, when you renew, your premium will be affected.
So, what’s the alternative?
If you claim through EasiGo Accident Management, once we have established the other driver's fault; you can tell your insurer the liability has been sorted.
How long it takes us to get our bill fully paid by the other insurer, is of no concern to your insurer- they are not outstanding any money. It is not an open claim.¬ Sorted!

Admiral Insurance Courtesy car – what you need to know.
Admiral is the UK’s largest car insurer. Here we examine their courtesy car policy & what your alternative is.
Like most insurers, you must use Admiral’s approved repairer- not the main agent approved one.
You will be supplied with a class A car- 3 door, hatchback, like a Ford Ka or Nissan Micra.
If your car is a write off / beyond economic repair, you will not be supplied with one.
What’s the alternative?
Fortunately, if the accident was not your fault, call us. We will track down & claim off the other insurer. Once we have established liability (spoke to witnesses, seen accident photos etc) we will arrange a suitable size car; which will be delivered to your door. You will be able to keep it until yours has been repaired- by an approved main agent repairer.
IF it is not economically repairable, you will have our courtesy car until you have been paid out- plus a week, which gives you time to find a new one.
We recover all costs directly from the at fault insurer- no excess, no fee!
Sounds better? The sensible & free alternative.
UK wide, claim line open 24/7, on 03300226781.
