“Don’t make us look stupid.”

This is the unspoken theme behind most B2B marketing.

Marketing only works if it leaves an impression
Strong enough that someone notices you, remembers you, trusts you, and eventually thinks,
“I want to buy from these people.”

You don’t get there by optimising for ‘safety’.

This is the old way of B2B Marketing.

But there is a new way;
- Building an organic content engine.
- Building ambassador brands around your best salespeople and leaders - not just your logo.
- Showing up week in, week out.

Most brands are too scared to try it.
Would you?

Most B2B brands are stuck making the same 2-3 video formats on repeat.

Here are 10 hot formats that are working on social right now;

Most B2B companies have a content problem.
But it’s not that they don’t post enough.
They don’t know what their content is supposed to do.

Simply put, If you want:
→ Sales calls - solve problems your buyers are already experiencing.
→ Community - give people reasons to participate, not just consume.
→ Investment - show investors the quality of the people building the company.
→ Followers - create ideas people genuinely want to see more of.
→ Talent - show what it’s actually like to work with you.
→ Domain authority - consistently publish insights worth associating with your name.

The mistake is treating “content” as the goal.
It isn’t.

Content is the vehicle.
The goal is the business outcome on the other side of it.

So before creating your next post, ask:
“What job is this piece of content supposed to do?”

Because if you don’t know…
There’s a good chance your audience won’t know either.

Everyone tells you to niche down.

Almost nobody tells you there are 3 levels

1️⃣ Niche the topic
Choose the broad space you want to be known for.

2️⃣ Niche the problem
Stop talking about everything within that space.
Own a specific problem your audience desperately wants solved.

3️⃣ Niche the person - yourself
Bring your story, experience, contradictions, opinions, and perspective into your content.

Because your competitors can copy your topic.
They can copy your problem.
They can even copy your frameworks, formats and hooks.

But they can’t copy you.

The topic gets you found.
The problem gets you chosen.
The person gets you remembered.

Most businesses are obsessed with getting views.

But views don’t pay the bills. Retention does.

Because if people never make it to your call-to-action,
it doesn’t matter how good your hook was.

You’ve spent time, money, and effort attracting attention...
Only to lose it before it matters.

That’s why Part 6 of my Social Media Playbook is all about the science of retention.

There are three psychological principles behind videos that people actually finish watching:

🧠 Open the loop (Zeigarnik Effect)
Keep your audience curious enough to stay until the end.

⚡ Interrupt the pattern
Something should change every 5–7 seconds.
New angle. Jump cut. Visual. Text. Vocal shift.

🎯 Make it specific
People don’t remember generic advice.
They remember stories, examples, and proof.

Retention isn’t luck.
It’s psychology.

Master this, and you’ll stop creating content people scroll past and start creating content that converts.

Of course it’s targeted at sales 😂

What does a fully booked week as a B2B content creator actually look like?

Most people see the finished videos.

But you don’t see the strategy calls, scripting sessions, client briefs, shot lists, event days, gear prep, last-minute changes…

Or somehow ending up in a pub watching footie with clients. 😂

Last week looked like:

- 6 client shoots
- 2 events
- Countless planning calls
- Hundreds of clips captured
- Thousands of steps walked 😅

And this is the biggest lesson;
Great content doesn’t start when the camera comes on.

It starts with the planning beforehand.
The better the strategy, the better the content.

Massive thank you to every client who trusts VidConOtor to tell their story.

Every shoot is different, and that’s what keeps this job exciting.

Most B2B companies are ignoring the most powerful content engine they already have.

Their employees.

This is Part 5 of my playbook for scaling a business on today’s social media.
