Congratulations , winner of CODE’s Happiest Places to Work 2026, in partnership with .

The Black Bear Burger philosophy can be summed up as “simple, done well”. They’re referring, of course, to their famous dry-aged, grass-fed British beef burgers – voted the 2nd best in the world – but the philosophy might equally apply to their stream-lined operation. This is a business that keeps things simple, trusts its people and leads from the front.

What happened in hospitality last week? An update from the CODE bulletin newsletter:

1. Din Tai Fung has something a little different planned for its fifth London location, opening in King’s Cross this December. The 160-cover site on Lewis Cubitt Walk will be the Taiwanese brand’s first “lifestyle-led destination” in the UK, with a purpose-built masterclass and community space and a 30-cover al fresco "contemplation garden".

2. Now open on James Street, W1, the first standalone site for Feroz Gajia and Arcade London's smashburger concept Manna. Site exclusives include a trifle and a cola float in classic, chocolate and cherry versions. Walk-in only.

3. This October, the Savoy will open the doors to Beaufort W**e Bar, "a dedicated house of w**e". It will have one of the UK's largest by-the-glass programmes, with glasses from £9 to £1000, and vintages from 1975 to 2025. There will be cheese, jamón, and live music too.

4. Bianca's in Stoke Newington has closed, far too soon, but in its place comes Da Pino, a new neighbourhood spot from two of the team, Pugliese chef Giuseppe Pino and manager Federico Giannuzzi. The menu is still under wraps but there will be riso, patate e cozze. Opens 1 October.

What happened in hospitality last week? An update from the CODE bulletin newsletter:

1. A City pub serving live lobsters and king crab straight from the tank? It can only be the work of Wild Group, whose first pub, The Albatross, lands in a 1930s former bank on Old Jewry, by Bank Station, on 7 September.

2. Schofield’s Bar, the celebrated Manchester bar, twice voted one of the World's 50 Best Bars, is heading for the capital. Brothers Joe and Daniel Schofield will be mixing their famous martinis, Manhattans and more in Covent Garden from early November.

3. La Cage, a sports brasserie and long-standing Montreal institution, makes its UK debut on 4 September. The Kensington High Street site represents the group’s first move into an English-speaking market. Bring on the live sports, poutine and lobster rolls!

4. The Twenty Two in Mayfair debuts a new concept in its dining room next month. Café Twenty Two, led by Guillaume Glipa (ex-Louie London), will marry Mayfair elegance with Parisian chic, serving cocktails from a trolley and French classics from the kitchen. Sure to be a scene.
