Happy International Translation day! 🗣️🎉

In 2017, the UN declared the 30th September as a day to celebrate professional translators, interpreters and terminologists, recognising the value and skill in their roles as they quietly connect nations together to foster a brighter future. This year, the International Federation of Translation's theme is Celebrating Translation, Peace and Trust.

At Footstep our passion for languages and intercultural communication has driven much of our audio and video production over 3 decades. That may not come as a surprise for those who know our founder and the fact she has various degrees of 7 languages under her belt!

Languages are a wonderful gateway for knowledge, career, community and culture, and it's given us opportunities to meet and work with a range of wonderful people from across the world and in a flurry of different languages. Whilst an app may have its place, there is nothing like a human translator or interpreter to really support understanding. And even better when that person is you…. here’s to learning languages to promote peace and trust. The more the better!

As the new school year begins in the Northern Hemisphere, it prompted the Footstep team to look back at some of the fun we’ve had filming at schools around the world. We’ve filmed for publishers and broadcasters, some scripted sequences for language learning or more documentary based features to show what life is really like at school in another country.

BBC Language programmes switched me onto language learning, gave me a love of other cultures and people and a passion for travel. With reduced funding and resources available for language teaching in UK schools we hope that this kind of window into the lives of others won’t be lost.

Good luck to both teachers and students embarking on another year of adventure through learning!

Author: Colette Thomson, Founder

Footsteps wishes good luck to those going back to school this week, students and teachers alike!

Can you believe it's been 12 years since we flew out to Austin, Texas for Cesar's episode of My Hero?!

My Hero was an original series created by Colette and produced by Footstep Productions, where young people were given the chance to meet someone who inspired them and get a glimpse of what their own future could look like!

In 2013, young Cesar got to meet one of his heroes, Dr Mark Moffett (aka. Dr Bugs!), and that moment helped shape his future. Cesar slowly followed in Dr Bugs' footsteps, and turned his passion into a profession.

Today he runs a successful business called ANTS HQ, where he sells ants and ant-keeping equipment to enthusiasts across the UK. He also visits schools and zoos to educate the next generation of young people in the business of ant keeping!

Turns out a spark of inspiration and hard work can go a long way. From Austin to ants, 12 years later the passion (and the colony) just keeps growing! 🐜🐜🐜

Back in October 2024, we had the opportunity to partner up with as the focus of another fantastic ELT video project we produced for Digital Learning Associates.

School in a Bag is an amazing organisation that provides school bags filled with essential educational and healthcare supplies to children across 58+ countries! We had a wonderful shoot as the students from a local primary school got involved. Not only did they raise money through a sponsored walk, but they each packed a school bag that was then sent to children overseas.

Education has always been at the heart of what we do here at Footstep, and we’re beyond proud to support such a fantastic charity. A huge thank you to School in a Bag for the vital work they do!

Catch our ELT video on DLA’s website as apart of their Young Learners program!
