Juan Manuel Marquez Scores Iconic Round 6 KO of Manny Pacquiao On This Day in 2012

On this day in 2012 boxing witnessed one of its most unforgettable finishes. Juan Manuel Marquez finally found the ending he had chased for eight long years, delivering a perfectly timed right hand that stopped Manny Pacquiao in Round 6 of their fourth and final meeting at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

The rivalry between Pacquiao and Marquez was one of the greatest in modern boxing. Three previous fights had produced controversy, debate and razor close scorecards. Marquez felt he had been denied decisions, Pacquiao felt he had done enough in each meeting, and fans argued over every round for almost a decade.

In the fourth fight Marquez came prepared with a new game plan, adding more power and patience. Pacquiao pushed the pace early, scoring well with speed and combinations, but Marquez delivered the first knockdown of the night with a sweeping right hand in the third. Pacquiao returned the favour in the fifth as the momentum swung back and forth.

Then came the sixth round. With seconds remaining Marquez timed Pacquiao’s forward step perfectly and landed the shot that ended one of boxing’s greatest rivalries with a single moment of brilliance.

A dramatic finish to a legendary series between two all time greats.

Floyd Mayweather Jr Retains WBC Welterweight title VS Ricky Hatton On This Day 2007 as British Fans Take Over Las Vegas

On this night in 2007 the MGM Grand witnessed one of the most unforgettable atmospheres ever seen in American boxing. Floyd Mayweather Jr retained the WBC world welterweight crown with a Round 10 stoppage of Ricky Hatton but the story of the week belonged just as much to the fans who travelled across the world to support their man.

Las Vegas was filled with tens of thousands of British supporters carrying Union Jacks and St George’s flags, singing from dawn to night and creating a football like atmosphere rarely seen in the United States. It was a wave of colour and noise that turned the Strip into a home crowd for Hatton and gave the event a unique energy that even American broadcasters still talk about.

Inside the ring Hatton pressed forward with the same fearless style that made him a crowd favourite across the world. Mayweather remained composed and accurate, gradually adjusting to Hatton’s pressure before taking control in the later rounds. A counter in the tenth round forced the referee to step in, sealing Mayweather’s victory.

Despite the result the night remains one of the most iconic occasions in modern British boxing. Hatton’s supporters created an atmosphere that fighters and fans still remember with pride and respect. It was a moment when a British fighter and his loyal following made Las Vegas feel like an away day at home.

A special night for boxing and a reminder of the legacy Ricky Hatton left behind.

Isaac Cruz and Lamont Roach Jr Battle to Controversial Majority Draw After Dramatic Fight in Texas

What a wild one in San Antonio.

Isaac Pitbull Cruz and Lamont Roach Jr just went twelve rounds in a tense and dramatic fight that ended in a majority draw, allowing Cruz to retain his WBC interim super lightweight title.

Cruz produced the first major moment of the night in round three when he scored a knockdown with a fierce left hook the first time Roach had ever been dropped in his career.

But the momentum shifted again in round seven when the referee deducted a point from Cruz for a kidney punch a call that proved to be huge when the scorecards were read.

Across the full twelve rounds Roach was the busier man, landing 191 punches to Cruz's 159, and he made it clear after the fight that he believed he had done enough to win.

Two judges saw it 113 113, while the third had it 115 111 for Cruz, resulting in the official majority draw.

Roach voiced his frustration in the ring, insisting he deserved the nod. Cruz fired back and said he wants a rematch but only if a different referee is appointed.

This rivalry clearly has more chapters to come.

O’Shaquie Foster BEATS Stephen Fulton by unanimous decision to win the WBC ‘interim’ lightweight belt 🥊

Fulton came in two pounds over the 130‑lb super‑featherweight limit, which meant the originally scheduled title could not be contested. The World Boxing Council (WBC) re‑sanctioned the bout as an interim lightweight (135‑lb) title fight.

The judges scored the fight 117‑111, 118‑110, and 119‑109, giving Foster a clear victory. He is now recognized as the WBC interim lightweight champion.

🥊 Erislandy Lara Outboxes Johan Gonzalez, Retains WBA Middleweight Title 🏆

At 42 years old, Erislandy Lara proved he’s still got it defeating Johan Gonzalez by unanimous decision (118‑108, 119‑107, 120‑106) to keep hold of his WBA world middleweight belt.

Originally, Lara was scheduled to unify belts against Janibek Alimkhanuly, but Alimkhanuly was pulled after failing a VADA drug test just days before the card. That opened the door for Gonzalez to step in on short notice.

From the first bell, the veteran “American Dream” controlled the fight with sharp boxing, clean jabs and ring‑IQ. He sent Gonzalez down in Round 1 and again in the final round, booked safe rounds, and never allowed the Venezuelan challenger to build momentum.

This win represents another strong title defense for Lara reinforcing that age isn’t slowing him down. But it also raises a question: after such a dominant display, who’s next on the middleweight ladder to try and take that belt from him?

🥊 Jesus Ramos Jr Defeats Shane Mosley Jr by Unanimous Decision to Claim WBC Interim Middleweight Title 🏆

Jesus Ramos Jr dominated the twelve-round showdown in San Antonio and walked away with clear victory tonight winning by unanimous decision over Shane Mosley Jr. The judges saw it decisively: 116-111, 115-113, 115-113 in favor of Ramos.

From start to finish, Ramos controlled the tempo with sharp jab work, clean counters, and consistent pressure. Mosley had flashes of offense, but never managed to sway the momentum. The result hands Ramos the vacant WBC Interim Middleweight belt and cements this as one of the biggest nights of his career.

New Interim champion. Clear winner. Middleweight division, take notice.

🥊 JOHNNY FISHER STOPS IVAN BALAZ IN ROUND 4 IN MONACO 🇲🇨

Johnny Fisher returned to the ring tonight and got the result he needed. He stopped Ivan Balaz with a fourth-round TKO (1:19) to avoid a career-crushing upset.

The fight started ugly, Balaz rocked Fisher early and dropped him in round one. Referee gave no count, but the scare was real. Fisher was visibly shaken.
He regrouped. In round 4 Fisher dropped Balaz three times: first with a left hook, then a right, then another punch that sent Balaz down for good. The ref waved it off immediately.

The win improves Fisher’s record to 14-1 (12 KOs) and ends a difficult run after his loss to Dave Allen earlier this year.

No hype. No unnecessary talk. Just the facts. This was a gritty comeback and a much-needed victory.

🇦🇺 Jai Opetaia Scores Brutal Round Eight Knockout

Jai Opetaia reminded everyone why he is one of the most dangerous fighters in the world tonight on the Gold Coast. The IBF and The Ring cruiserweight champion flatlined Huseyin Cinkara with a savage left hand in round eight to move to 29 and 0 with 23 stoppages.

Opetaia had to deal with a scare in round two when Cinkara rocked him with a big right hand, but the champion steadied himself and took full control from that point on. By the middle rounds Opetaia was walking Cinkara down, ripping shots to the body and breaking him apart.

The finish came early in the eighth when Opetaia landed a clean left just under the ear that shut the challenger off instantly. Cinkara went down and stayed motionless for several minutes which left the arena in silence before he thankfully recovered.

Despite the devastating finish Opetaia was not impressed with his performance and said he felt he made too many mistakes. But the result puts him in perfect position for major unification fights next year with WBC champion Badou Jack and WBO and WBA champion Zurdo Ramirez.

A statement win. A frightening knockout. And a champion who still believes he has another level to reach.

Who do you want to see Opetaia face next?

⭐ Gennady Golovkin Antonio Tarver Nigel Benn Enter The Hall Of Fame

Three huge names are officially heading to Canastota as part of the 2026 International Boxing Hall of Fame class. Gennady Golovkin Antonio Tarver and Nigel Benn have all been voted in and each brings a very different legacy that earned them a place on the sport’s most exclusive stage.

Gennady Golovkin
The most obvious pick this year. Golovkin retired as one of the most dominant middleweights of the modern era with a record packed full of knockouts and title reigns that defined a decade. He made twenty successful middleweight title defenses which ties the divisional record. Golovkin beat world level fighters like Kell Brook Daniel Jacobs and David Lemieux and took part in one of the biggest rivalries of this generation against Canelo Alvarez. His sustained dominance clean technique and global star power made his induction a formality.

Antonio Tarver
Tarver’s name carries weight because of moments that defined whole eras. His second round stoppage of Roy Jones Junior remains one of the most famous upset wins in boxing. But it was not a one hit story. Tarver won multiple light heavyweight world titles and stayed relevant through a long career that bridged the post Roy Jones era. Before turning professional he was a standout amateur and an Olympic medalist which added another layer to his credentials. His resume and longevity finally earned him the call that many felt he had been close to for several years.

Nigel Benn
One of the most exciting fighters Britain has ever produced. Nigel Benn won world titles at middleweight and super middleweight and did it with an all action style that still gets replayed today. Benn owns one of British boxing’s most famous wins over Gerald McClellan in a dramatic and unforgettable fight that showed both his heart and his grit. His rivalry filled era alongside Chris Eubank and Steve Collins helped build the foundation for the modern British scene. Benn has been on the ballot for years and the voting finally swung his way.

Who missed out this year

Sumya Anani remains one of the most debated omissions. She holds a clear win over Christy Martin and victories over several top women of her era yet continues to be overlooked in the modern women category. Some fans also pointed to Pongsaklek Wonjongkam as a fighter who deserved stronger consideration after his long run at flyweight.

A well balanced class

Golovkin brings the elite dominance.
Tarver brings the story of big upsets and championship resilience.
Benn brings the fire power and unforgettable moments.

Three very different careers all meeting at the same destination.

If you want the full membership details and the complete Hall of Fame schedule you can check the official announcement.

Who is your favourite pick from this class and who do you think should be next in line?
