I must admit, I wasn't expecting this kind of sluggish start from our first two league matches either! Losing 3-0 at Brentford followed by a 2-0 defeat to Newcastle at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium is tough to digest for any Spurs fan.

That said, it WILL take time—we just need to start seeing noticeable improvements, and quick!

Comparing Roberto De Zerbi’s situation to Xabi Alonso at Chelsea or Enzo Maresca at Manchester City is an oversimplified narrative. Those managers walked into established squad structures. De Zerbi, Chief Executive Vinai Venkatesham, and Technical Director Johan Lange have undertaken a complete, top-to-bottom tactical overhaul in N17.

Look at the sheer scale of the turnover: we’ve integrated eight new players into a highly complex, press-resistant system. Dropping £92.5m on Sandro Tonali, £60m on Omar Marmoush, plus bringing in Sávio, Mateus Fernandes, and Jan Paul van Hecke is incredible backing. Let's look at the cold, hard facts instead of scapegoating Danso. Luka Vušković didn't force a departure because Danso was occupying a 4th-choice rotation slot. He wanted to be a guaranteed 1st-team starter! The moment Technical Director Johan Lange, Chief Executive Vinai Venkatesham, and Roberto De Zerbi brought in Jan Paul van Hecke for £52m to anchor our defence, Vušković’s direct path to the starting XI was completely blocked.

Vušković is a 19-year-old Croatian international who just starred at the World Cup and crushed his loan spell at Hamburg. He has massive ambition and wasn't about to sit on our bench twiddling his thumbs. Even if Spurs sold Danso to the highest bidder on July 1st, it wouldn't have changed a single thing for Vušković! He still would have been behind Van Hecke, Micky van de Ven, and Marcos Senesi in De Zerbi's hierarchy.

Danso staying or going makes zero difference to a player who demanded immediate starter minutes. Getting angry at Danso for pushing for a late move or holding up squad depth completely misses the root cause of the transfer. I completely agree with the sentiment that we need to keep perspective. We are early into a brand-new season under Roberto De Zerbi, completely overhauling our tactical setup with a massive wave of summer additions. Expecting instant telepathic cohesion right out of the gate in the Premier League is unrealistic.

Remember when Mauricio Pochettino took over back in 2014? We were in the exact same position. The early results were tough to swallow, but you could clearly see the tactical foundation Poch was trying to lay. Once the squad fully bought into his pressing system and everything clicked, we went on one of the most thrilling runs in modern Spurs history. De Zerbi’s positional play demands absolute precision, so patience is non-negotiable.

That being said, continuing to force Tel into an isolated wing role where he gets stifled on the touchline is frustrating to watch. He is clearly an inside forward who needs to operate closer to goal. With new arrivals like Sávio returning to fitness and Omar Marmoush joining the attack, De Zerbi has the tools to balance the front line.
