This morning, we were on Twickenham’s doorstep celebrating the Women’s Rugby World Cup Final with National Lottery-funded Richmond Rugby, a grassroots club at the heart of women and girls’ rugby. 💪

Richmond Women played their first international in 1986, and since then over 100 players have gone on to represent their country, showing just how far the game has come.

With £170m of National Lottery funding invested in rugby, Richmond’s players are part of a legacy transforming the women’s game. 💪

We were joined by football legend, Lucy Bronze and World Cup-winning Maggie Alphonsi, alongside England Rugby Deborah Griffin, Sport England Kate Peers and World Rugby Sarah Massey.

None of this would be possible without National Lottery players. 💛❤️🖤

As England take on Canada in Saturday's Women's Rugby World Cup final, Reading Abbey RFC’s “Maa Maas” are proving that rugby isn't just about elite sport - it's about giving mothers the chance to return to the game they love.

This groundbreaking team of mothers shows how National Lottery funding creates opportunities for women at every stage of life. With £15,000 invested in new women’s and girls’ facilities, they're breaking down barriers of their own as England look to make history at Twickenham.

As England prepare for Saturday's Women's Rugby World Cup final at Twickenham, it’s grassroot rugby clubs like Saracens Sonics that show how champions are made. Starting with just seven girls three years ago, they've grown into a thriving community of over 90 members - proving that every Red Rose started somewhere like this.

Thanks to National Lottery funding, clubs like the Sonics can create pathways that lead from local pitches to Twickenham. As we look forward to the final this Saturday, we're celebrating the grassroots foundations that make moments like this possible.
