Electronic music has always moved fast, but female representation in the scene remains limited. Less than 5% of producers and engineers on major tracks are women, and female DJs still make up under a quarter of the industry.
This imbalance has deep historical roots. From Maria Anna Nannerl Mozart—an early prodigy sidelined by her gender — to electronic music pioneers like Daphne Oram, Delia Derbyshire and Suzanne Ciani, has shown that women's contributions have often been overlooked.
That imbalance continues today. When we launched our spring takeover, applications and winners were male dominated - a reminder of the structural barriers still in place and the urgent need to create more space and visibility for women in the scene.
To help change that narrative, Electric is launching its first-ever Female Takeover Week, taking place from 13th to 18th October. The event will showcase some of the most exciting female artists in electronic music today such as Toriah, K.A.D, EADZO, Toni, Samantha Neal, Beccs Vernon, Kaci Lea Lynch, Lucia Cors, Caoimhe & more still to come.
We'd love for you to join us! We are opening up space for new and undiscovered talent. Female DJs can apply to be part of the line-up by submitting a 1-hour mix by 1st October.
