Electronic music has always moved fast, but female representation in the scene remains limited. Less than 5% of producers and engineers on major tracks are women, and female DJs still make up under a quarter of the industry.

This imbalance has deep historical roots. From Maria Anna Nannerl Mozart—an early prodigy sidelined by her gender — to electronic music pioneers like Daphne Oram, Delia Derbyshire and Suzanne Ciani, has shown that women's contributions have often been overlooked.

That imbalance continues today. When we launched our spring takeover, applications and winners were male dominated - a reminder of the structural barriers still in place and the urgent need to create more space and visibility for women in the scene.

To help change that narrative, Electric is launching its first-ever Female Takeover Week, taking place from 13th to 18th October. The event will showcase some of the most exciting female artists in electronic music today such as Toriah, K.A.D, EADZO, Toni, Samantha Neal, Beccs Vernon, Kaci Lea Lynch, Lucia Cors, Caoimhe & more still to come.

We'd love for you to join us! We are opening up space for new and undiscovered talent. Female DJs can apply to be part of the line-up by submitting a 1-hour mix by 1st October.

This weekend we're celebrating, as Electric turns 5!

Back in 2020 at the start of the pandemic and after a year of development behind closed doors, we re-launched Electric.

Our opening weekend was pretty modest (compared to the number of DJs we have now), initially featuring Roger Sanchez, Franky Rizardo, Anjunadeep, Kryder, Deadmau5 and Enhanced. Defected joined the party a few weeks later, followed by a rotation of grass-root DJ talent in May.

We were the first - and remain the only UK commercial broadcaster to mix up-and-coming talent and established names in peak time slots.

Since then, we've grown our evening and weekend line-up to feature almost 70 DJs every month, with our vision remaining the same today: create a thriving community for electronic music fans and creators, using tech that goes beyond the limits of radio.

To the residents that have been with us from the start, right up to the guests first in the door last week + the thousands of listeners that tune in every week - THANK YOU.

We've got so much planned for the next 12 months, and whilst this 5 year milestone feels really special - this is only the start of something bigger.

Happy 5th birthday Electric!

BLOND:ISH: Making history as Pacha's first female headline resident

BLOND:ISH has been confirmed as Pacha Ibiza’s first-ever female headline resident DJ, marking a major milestone in the club’s 52-year history on the White Isle.

Announced on Monday, February 10, the news reveals that the Canadian DJ and producer will lead her own Abracadabra party at Pacha every Wednesday from May 21 to July 30, delivering an 11-week residency rooted in sustainability and community.

“We’re very happy to announce BLOND:ISH as Pacha Ibiza’s first female headline resident,” said Pacha CEO Aloki Batra in a statement to Mixmag. “Launching on May 21, she will bring her Abracadabra brand to the club for an 11-week residency.”

“I've been going to Ibiza since I was 17, so you can imagine that I’ve been dreaming about a residency and what I can bring to the island that’s unique,” BLOND:ISH shared. “Energy is everything, and you can be sure that we will bring fresh energy to the island. It’s something you need to experience in person on Wednesdays at Pacha Ibiza with Abracadabra.”

While Abracadabra is the first female-led party brand to secure a regular slot at Pacha, the club has previously hosted standout female residents, including Cassy, Sarah Main, DJ Paulette, and Sam Divine.
