Costume and Play aims to voice the UK’s individual movement of Costuming providing beautifully delivered content alongside features and events. What is cosplay?

Cosplay is derived from the terms ‘Costume and Play’. It consists of individuals effectively ‘dressing up’ as their favourite characters, but it is the individual components of ‘cosplay’ that make it so unique. The ‘Costume’ element when crafted leads into several different skill-sets such as prop making and sewing. The ‘Play’ or ‘Performance’ element with either a made or purchased costume leads to spectacular shows such as a cosplay masquerade. What does Costume and Play do? With such a vibrant community and so many individual elements making up the art form that is ‘cosplay’ navigating around this can be tricky, Costume and Play provides services to help companies understand the multiple benefits of cosplay such as its incredible audience engagement, while rooting itself firmly in the community to help grow it. How do I get involved? Cosplay encourages you to dress and be a character you love – be it from Anime, Gaming, TV, Film, it doesn’t matter if its brought or handmade, as long as its a fandom you love. If your a community member you can follow and share our community section, social media channels and of course attend the events we’ll be present at! Hi! I’m Zoe, or Z from JnZcosplay!

I’ve been cosplaying for 16 years and absolutely love bringing characters to life, especially from the Soulsborne franchise. I’m probably best known for my Lady Maria cosplay, but don’t let the dark and dramatic fool you i’m also obsessed with all things cute and colourful too!

One thing I’m truly passionate about is sustainability in cosplay. I’m a huge advocate for reusing and recycling fabrics from old bedding to curtains, I love turning forgotten materials into something amazing. No challenge is too big or too small when creativity is involved!

When I’m not crafting costumes, I’m usually in the kitchen. I’m also a chef and love cooking and baking for everyone around me so consider yourself warned if snacks suddenly appear nearby!

My name is Charlotte and I have been cosplaying for over 15 years. I love to make props, fantasy creatures and armoured costumes!

I really enjoy working with different materials including fabrics, foam, 3D prints and worbla.

I’ve been cosplaying for 9 years and I’ve recently been working with my 3D printers to further enhance my own cosplays!

Thanks to cosplay I’ve been a judge at Megacon, a content creator for MCM, been a competitor for DreamHack and been able to cosplay for charity events all around the country!

"My names Kirby, a 27 year young cosplayer from the South of England. Like many people i started cosplay in 2020 during the pandemic after my friend told me I looked like Adora from She-ra😂.
I've always been a creative person and cosplay has given me the creative outlet that I never had before. My favourite thing is when I can blend my two passions of cosplay and martial arts together when making tiktoks or photo shoots etc.
I've made many cosplays where I've adjusted items of clothing that I had around the house but last year I made my very first cosplay from scratch, which taught me so much from sewing to foam work. I've come to love the feeling of making my own cosplays to bring my favourite characters to life!!

I'm J of JnZ_cosplay. I've been cosplaying for 15 years now and have spent the last few of those years known as something of an 'arms master'. I love working with a host of materials; whether that's foam, wood, PVC, or resin printing, to make all shapes and sizes of weapons; be them big or small. I feel like I come into my own creatively with the little details like blood, sand, and even incorporating real rust into projects, as well as working with special effects like lights, smoke and sound.

I'm most often found cosplaying from gaming and anime with Soulsbourne, Borderlands, and One Piece being some personal favourites. I also love the creative freedom making builds based on my DnD OCs gives me and relish the chance to really lean in to all the tiny details that show a characters story.

I can't wait to see everyone's amazing cosplays and I'm particularly looking forward to looking at people's work with props and smaller details
