A Heartfelt Lament For disappointment
Mr. Governor Fr Hyacinth Iormem Alia , I'm writing to you with a heavy heart, filled with pain and disappointment. The people of Benue State placed their trust in you, believing you'd be the beacon of hope in our darkest hour. We thought you'd save us from the clutches of insecurity, create job opportunities, and develop our infrastructure. We envisioned a brighter future under your leadership, but alas, it's been nothing but shattered dreams.
Your ascension to office was met with euphoria, and we hailed you as a savior. We thought you'd bring about a new era of peace, progress, and prosperity. But instead, our roads have become battlegrounds, our farms fields of bloodshed, and our future uncertain. The once-thriving "Food Basket of the Nation" is now a zone of fear, where farmers can't till their land, and hunger looms large.
We're no longer free to travel, our movements restricted by the constant threat of violence. Our economy is suffering, and our people are crying out for help. The infrastructure we were promised has yet to materialize, leaving our communities in disrepair.
Mr. Governor, your silence is deafening. Your inaction is crippling. We're not just statistics or voters; we're human beings, crying out for help. We're the mothers who can't feed their children, the fathers who can't provide for their families, and the youth who've lost hope.
You spoke of change, of a new dawn, but it's been nothing but empty promises. We're tired of the rhetoric, tired of the excuses, and tired of being treated like pawns in a game of power. We demand action, Mr. Governor. We demand leadership that cares, that listens, and that acts.
The "Food Basket of the Nation" is a title we're proud of, but it's becoming a hollow boast. Our farms are idle, our people are suffering, and our future is uncertain. We're not just a breadbasket; we're human beings, deserving of dignity, security, and prosperity.
Mr. Governor, we implore you: hear our cry, feel our pain, and act. We're not asking for miracles; we're asking for basic governance. Secure our roads, create opportunities for our youth, and develop our infrastructure. We're willing to work with you, to partner with you, but we need action, not words.
The trust we've placed in you is broken, but we still hold on to hope. We hope that you'll rediscover your purpose, that you'll remember the promises you made, and that you'll act to save our state from the brink of collapse. We hope that you'll be the leader we believed you could be.
Until then, we'll continue to cry out, to protest, and to demand better. We'll hold you accountable, Mr. Governor, because we believe that's what leaders are for – to serve, to protect, and to uplift. The people of Benue State are suffering; it's time for you to act.
BENUE REV. FR. HYACINTH ALIA FOR GOVERNOR OF BENUE STATE 2023.
