Resonate Voices

Resonate Voices Elevating East Asian diaspora experiences through representation in the media.

‘Resonate’ is a news and entertainment website that provides writers with a platform to discuss topics that strongly resonate amongst East Asian communities in the West. Our writers do not need to be of East Asian heritage but simply need to harbour an interest in writing about topics that concern East Asian communities around the world. The representation of East Asians is unreasonably disproportionate within politics, the film industry, music industry and the media in general. For example, when East Asians are represented in the film, they are often represented through takeaway owners or martial artists. ‘Resonate’ aims to promote East Asian talent through the medium of written journalism and eventually film/television, photography and music in order to achieve a wider and more diverse media presence for East Asians.

‘Resonate’ actively encourages positive representation in the media by making your voice heard by delivering interesting articles from your own perspectives to actively engage wider audiences. Our platform features a combination of regular columnists and special guest columnists from writers across the world writing about common Asian interests. ‘Resonate’ plays host to a hub of ideas to showcase the creative talents of the global East Asian community. We are currently expanding our platform, so if there is any aspect/category/country that you feel is important to East Asian culture that we have not covered, please let us know and we will do our best to accommodate your suggestions. We always welcome any comments (positive or negative, but mainly positive) regarding our site so please do get in touch! If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact us at [email protected].

Lee Kang-in has faced racist abuse again following Atlético Madrid’s 2-1 victory over Real Madrid.

The South Korean forward was involved in both of Atlético’s goals but also drew criticism for a tackle on Federico Valverde that Real Madrid manager José Mourinho argued should have resulted in a red card.

After Lee’s halftime interview, some fans posted racist comments, including: “How does this Chinese person speak Spanish?” Others shared an old image of Valverde making a racial gesture.

The incident comes weeks after a YouTuber appeared to make an “eye-pulling” gesture while celebrating Lee’s goal on his Atlético debut.
