Doesn’t time fly??
We have been open a year and we are extremely grateful for all the support we have received. Our small business has grown to two days a week and home visits around that and we are thankful to all those who have trusted us with their health and injuries.
Special thanks to our family and friends for their support and love and to Coulsdon Osteopathic Clinic and Luke Turner | Gym Owner for their help in moving things forwards. And special thanks to CoulsdonRunners, Kenley Hockey Club and Chipstead RFC for their ongoing support and all those that have recommended us to others. It’s extremely appreciated and isn’t taken for granted.

I’ve been managing a plantar footplate injury/metatarsalga since Boston. I’ve tried insoles which need a bit of a review and slowly loading and strengthening my calf complex but early this week foot pain reared its ugly head causing me to literally stopped me in my tracks! Now I have my app telling me I need to run 😳 ah the pressure!

Dear Runna | Running Coaching App
I am enjoying using your app, it’s helped structure my training and get me out on a day I don’t feel like it. It takes the thinking out of training but….
There isn’t an option to change or adapt the plan for injury. I’m not someone who likes the skip button (I feel defeated!) and would like a modify option.
I have a foot injury but could potentially do something towards my goal but want to be able to track on the app towards my goal and not just see skipped workouts!
(I know I can still do the modified workouts and rehab but the app keeps telling me I’m due a run!)
Today I tried a cycle with my family which was great and could spin or swim to keep my base fitness but this isn’t trackable on my plan…. I feel I’m letting it down 😂)
I’d love to chat about this and feel like I’m moving forwards.
Thanks
Amy

How you recover after a marathon is equally important to how you train and prepare.

The initial focus should be on helping the body recover. Sleep, hydration and ensuring you eat enough (carbs and protein) is essential. The body is recovering from micro trauma and cellular damage. It is depleted of energy stores and stress hormones are high.

In the weeks that follow it’s important to return to exercise and especially running slowly. Cross training that is low impact is a great place to start. A swim or cycle will help get your body moving but not overly stress it. The key here is to still prioritise sleep and recovery as the hormones in the body are still recovering. Yes, the post marathon blues is a thing!!

Around week 4-5, depending on your running experience and how you trained for your marathon you can start to reintroduce running and slowly build intensity and volume, if your body feels up to it.
Think of reverse taper there.

If anything is niggley or doesn’t feel right, seek out some support.

Physiotherapy can help woth post marathon massages, and assessment and treatment of any post running injuries. We can also help with recovery and planning a program for the next challenge or marathon.

If you need anything just ASK.
