Humanscale explores the relationship between wellbeing, responsible design, and the changing ways we work at ORGATEC 2026.

Taking place at Koelnmesse in Cologne from 27-30 October, ORGATEC 2026 will bring together leading brands, designers and workplace thinkers to explore the future of contract and workplace environments.

Humanscale's presentation responds to this changing landscape with a simple proposition: design should make life better for people while making a positive impact on the planet.

Guided by Body. Planet. Materials., the exhibition will explore the thinking behind that ambition — from understanding how people naturally sit, move and work, to the craftsmanship and precision engineering behind Humanscale products, and the responsibility to design for lasting positive impact.

Designing beyond the desk

As work becomes increasingly fluid, the workplace is no longer defined by a single desk or prescribed way of working. People move throughout the day between focused work, meetings, collaboration, conversation and respite, creating a growing need for environments that can intuitively support different activities and behaviours.

Soho’s Inaugural year as a Standalone District brings Design back to the West End for London Design Festival 2026

12th to 20th September – Soho, London
Soho Design District is on the map for the first time at London Design Festival. This September, Soho will become a living showcase for design, creativity, craft and community bringing together an ambitious programme of exhibitions, installations, talks, workshops, film, photography, material innovation and cultural events throughout the neighbourhood.

Running from 12th to 20th September 2026, the week will activate some of Soho's most distinctive spaces - from the Heal's Building and Soho Lighthouse to The Soho Hotel, Century Club, Groucho Club, and The Union Club - creating a week-long platform for designers, makers, architects, artists, developers, entrepreneurs and the wider public to explore how design can contribute to unique character of Soho.

Championed by Informare, the district will focus on next generation designers, sustainability, heritage and the future of the creative industries. The programme will bring established names together with emerging talent and next-generation businesses, building on Soho’s community.

THE SURFACE DESIGN SHOW RENEWS PARTNERSHIP WITH THE ROYAL INSTITUTE OF BRITISH ARCHITECTS FOR SDS27

Following on from the success of last year SurfaceThinking The Surface Design Show (SDS) is delighted to announce the continuation of its partnership with the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) for 2027 edition of the show. Building on the resounding success of last year’s collaboration, this renewed alliance reaffirms the show’s status as an unmissable fixture in the architecture and design industry’s annual calendar.

SDS will take over London’s Business Design Centre from 2 – 4 February 2027, promising to be a key event for architects and designers in London and beyond.

Lift opens in Riyadh’s JAX District as a hybrid creative platform

Designed by quartz architects, the 6,500 sq ft space blends exhibition, workspace and community programming through a flexible design.

June, Riyadh, KSA – Lift Studio/Space/Gallery has opened its doors in Riyadh’s JAX District, becoming the latest addition to a rapidly expanding ecosystem of artists, galleries and cultural platforms. Founded by HH Princess Nouf bint Abdulaziz AlSaud and designed by Saudi-based quartz architects, the 6,500 sq ft space is conceived as a fluid, multi-layered environment where exhibition, production and creative work intersect.

For HH Princess Nouf, the initial brief centred on creating a space that feels welcoming and intimate, but never intimidating.

The opening of Lift marks a significant step in cultivating Saudi Arabia’s emerging creative ecosystem, fully aligned with Saudi Vision 2030, it contributes to a cultural scene that engages both local and international audiences.

Future Designs carbon careful™ initiative preserves existing luminaires across Crawley schools

Across three secondary schools in the Crawley area, a major lighting refurbishment programme by Future Designs was delivered to update old classroom luminaires to latest technology LED through the carbon careful™ initiative.

Rather than replacing the entire system, a more sustainable and carbon saving solution was applied. Under the carbon careful™ initiative Future Designs provided new LED gear trays which were designed to integrate directly into the existing luminaire profiles, enabling the schools to retain the existing luminaire carcass while benefiting from modern LED performance.

The energy performance improvements were substantial. Existing fluorescent lamps operated at 33 watts, whereas the retrofit LED solution uses just 14.08 watts per fitting. This delivers an energy saving of 57.33%, significantly reducing running costs and supporting each school’s sustainability goals.

Hertford Apartments: A lifestyle driven design story led by atelier, Shepherd&

The Hertford Apartments, recently unveiled, are the result of a collaborative effort between Albion Nord, Buckley Gray Yeoman and Shepherd&. Building on Albion Nord's original concept, Shepherd& developed and delivered the interiors of Apartments One and Two, bringing the design through to completion.

The wider Hertford development and hotel were overseen by Timothy Shepherd, Managing Director of Shepherd& and formerly at BGY ID, ensuring continuity of vision throughout the project. Marko Gligorov led the technical design and delivery across the residential, while Freda Shepherd and Sara Rosellini led the creative direction, FF&E, styling and overall design development of Apartments One and Two.

Together, the team created a refined and highly personal residential story telling experience in the heart of Mayfair.
