What If Your Child Doesn’t Become What You Planned?
Let me ask you a question.
What if your child doesn’t become the person you imagined?
You’ve probably pictured it already.
Maybe you see your child becoming a doctor, a lawyer, an engineer, or whatever career you believe will give them a good future.
And there’s nothing wrong with wanting great things for your child.
But here’s the question: Are we sometimes so focused on the future we imagined for our children that we forget to pay attention to the child standing in front of us?
Because your child may have a completely different dream.
Maybe your child loves drawing more than mathematics.
Maybe they’re naturally curious, creative, outspoken, or incredibly good at solving problems in ways you never expected.
Maybe they’re not the loudest child in the room, and that doesn’t mean something is wrong with them.
And maybe they’re struggling in an area where you expected them to excel.
Does that mean they are failing?
Not necessarily.
As parents, our job isn't to create a perfect version of the child we imagined.
Our job is to discover the child we actually have, understand their strengths, guide their weaknesses, and give them the confidence to become the best version of themselves.
Yes, children need direction.
They need discipline.
They need boundaries.
They need education.
But they also need to be heard.
Because sometimes, raising a child means having the courage to let go of the future you imagined, so you can actually see the child in front of you.
So ask yourself today:
“Am I raising my child to become who I want them to be—or am I helping them discover who they can become?”
There’s a difference.
And sometimes, that difference can change everything.
