Why do calligraphers repeat the same letter so many times?

Because repetition teaches the hand.
The first attempt may be uncertain.
The tenth becomes familiar.
The hundredth begins to develop control.
With enough intentional practice, movement becomes more natural.

But remember:

**Repetition without observation is not enough.**

Observe.

“Is this letter beautiful?”
But:
Is it balanced?
Is the stroke consistent?
Is the spacing correct?
Is the composition breathing?
Does the next letter connect naturally?
Is the visual weight distributed properly?
