If you live in Watercolour or the surrounding area, has this Tesco closure affected you?

Tesco Express in Watercolour, Redhill appears to be preparing to reopen after fire

The Tesco Express store in the Watercolour development, Redhill, appears to be moving a step closer to reopening following the recent fire that caused extensive damage.

A new photo sent to Redhill Extra show a notice displayed on the store entrance reading: “We’re working to get things back to normal.” The notice confirms the store remains closed while work is carried out.

The supermarket has been shut since the fire, which caused significant damage to the building and the communal bin storage area behind the store. At least one vehicle was also destroyed in the blaze, and emergency services attended the scene.

Although Tesco has not announced an official reopening date, the latest notice suggests work is continuing to restore the store and return it to normal operation.

The Tesco Express in Watercolour serves many residents in the Watercolour development and surrounding areas of Redhill, making its reopening welcome news for local shoppers.

Redhill Extra will continue to provide updates as more information becomes available.

Community appeal: Somerset Road pond has almost dried up

These photos show the pond opposite Somerset Road Playground has almost completely dried up.

Local residents say the resident moorhens are struggling in the heat, with very little water left for drinking, cooling off and foraging.

If you’re visiting the area and are able to help, residents are asking whether you could top up the shallow paddling pools or clean containers with fresh water while we wait for some much-needed rain.

📍 Location: Somerset Road Pond, opposite Somerset Road Playground, 6LS Somerset Road, Redhill (Meadvale/Woodhatch).

New bollards installed in Redhill town centre near Papa John’s

New Steel bollards installed between Marketfield Road and Redhill High Street

New steel bollards have been installed in Redhill town centre near Papa John’s and Posadero Lounge to prevent cars from driving through the pedestrian route linking Marketfield Road and the High Street.

The new barriers have been placed across the access point to stop motorists using the pedestrian area as a shortcut through Redhill town centre.

The installation follows concerns that some drivers had been cutting through the pedestrianised section instead of remaining on the surrounding road network.

Although the new bollards prevent cars from accessing the route, they still leave enough space for bicycles, e-bikes and mopeds to pass between them.

The bollards are now in place outside Papa John’s and close to Posadero Lounge, making the pedestrian area inaccessible to cars while maintaining access for pedestrians, wheelchairs, mobility scooters and cyclists.

The latest changes are another visible addition to ongoing improvements in Redhill town centre and around Marketfield Road, one of the town’s busiest shopping and leisure areas.
