I’m a few days late, but this past Saturday 23rd May marked 17 years since I first attended MCM (then MCM expo) and cosplayed. The rest is history! I’m almost surprised I’ve stuck with it this long but I’ve genuinely loved doing it. I’ve learned so much and gained so many wonderful friends in the process!
I wanted to celebrate by showing cosplays I feel were particularly landmark in my journey, whether because I’ve become the most known for that costume at the time or because it really levelled my skills up!
• Ace - Doctor Who
I assembled Ace in 2014 while I was going through a rough patch in my work life. It was a real labour of love to identify all the pins and patches from the grainiest images known to man. It’s a lot easier to identify them all now! I cosplayed from Doctor Who a lot when I first started cosplaying and Ace was my absolute favourite.
• Mary Poppins
A dream cosplay that gave me my first “holy s**t, I can sew!!” Moment. I would love to remake her one day but I’m still so proud of this. And this cosplay won me 1st place and Best Performance at my first two cosplay masquerades! This was 2018, about 4 years after I started sewing properly.
• Anne Boleyn - Six
This cosplay wouldn’t have happened if it wasn’t for lockdown giving me the time to dedicate to it. This taught me SO MUCH and really pushed my skills working with difficult fabrics. She was first constructed in 2020 then was given an upgrade in 2022. I made so many tutorials and guides! She won me second place in my first ever MCM masquerade
• Coronation Anna
Another cosplay that really levelled up my sewing skills, but I never expected to become so fond of the character and to have done 5 variants of her two years later! I’ve had so many wonderful experiences in this cosplay making magic for children
• Frozen Fever Anna
I don’t feel like this one needs any explanation! It’s going to be my “hard to beat” cosplay for a while I think. I’m so incredibly proud of how it came out!
