We're excited to announce that Welcome to Your Vote Week 2026 will be taking place on 9-15 March, with the theme 'why voting matters' 🎉

The week is an opportunity to discuss the importance of voting and democracy in your area, discover the difference voting makes and how young people can have their voices heard.

Every year we invite schools, youth groups, and local elections teams to join us in celebrating democracy by running activities that help young people understand how it works and how to get involved.

More than half a million young people took part in 2025, and we want even more young people to learn about democracy and voting next March 🗳️

Sign up to take part and receive free resources: https://www.electoralcommission.org.uk/resources/resources-educators/sign-take-part-welcome-your-vote-week-2026

Mae'r cwricwlwm cenedlaethol mewn ysgolion yn Lloegr yn newid ym mis Medi 2028.

Argymhellwyd y dylid addysgu plant am forgeisi a sut i ddod yn siaradwyr mwy hyderus, ond hefyd am ddemocratiaeth ac ymgysylltu gwleidyddol – sy'n arbennig o bwysig o ystyried y cynlluniau i ostwng yr oedran pleidleisio i 16.

Mae hyn yn rhan o adolygiad sydd newydd ei gyhoeddi a gomisiynwyd gan y llywodraeth. Mae ein hymchwil wedi canfod bod bron i dri chwarter o blant 11–25 oed eisiau dysgu mwy am wleidyddiaeth yn yr ysgol. Byddai'r cynlluniau hyn yn creu llwybr i bobl ifanc ddechrau dysgu am ddemocratiaeth yn yr ysgol gynradd, gan wella eu gwybodaeth a'u sgiliau drwy gydol eu haddysg, a'u galluogi i fwrw eu pleidlais gyntaf yn hyderus.

Byddai'r argymhellion hyn hefyd yn cefnogi pobl ifanc i ddatblygu llythrennedd yn y cyfryngau, gan ddatblygu'r sgiliau sydd eu hangen i adnabod camwybodaeth a thwyllwybodaeth, a byddant yn annog pobl ifanc i ddatblygu'r sgiliau sydd eu hangen i drafod yn barchus ond yn gadarn.

Ochr yn ochr â'n partneriaid addysg, rydym wedi dadlau dros addysg fwy democrataidd mewn ysgolion, a byddwn yn darparu cymorth, canllawiau ac adnoddau i athrawon i sicrhau bod gwersi'n ddiduedd yn wleidyddol ac yn cael effaith.

It’s important to think carefully about what you see and hear. We’re sharing some tips for Global Media and Information Literacy Week.

1. Ask yourself 🤔

Does it reinforce or contradict my views?

Does it pay attention to detail, or overly simplify complex issues?

Does it give me a good sense of a party’s or campaigner’s policy position?
What are my own motives for believing it?

Could it be AI-generated or enhanced?

2. Check the source 🔍

Who made it? Not just who shared it. Is it a trustworthy source?

Look for an imprint. Some campaign material must have an imprint which tells you who published and promoted the material.

Who benefits if you believe the information?

3. Fact check claims ✅

Fact-checking organisations check that prominent claims in public debate are accurate.

UK fact-checkers like Full Fact and PA Fact Check follow international standards.

Broadcasters like BBC Verify and Channel 4 Fact Check also fact-check information.

A £20,000 fine isn't much of a deterrent to the biggest parties 💷

The government is proposing that our fining power should be increased, making for more effective and proportionate enforcement.

Gallwn ddirwyo pleidiau gwleidyddol hyd at £20,000 os ydyn nhw'n torri rheolau cyllid gwleidyddol – ond nid yw hynny'n fawr o'i gymharu â gwariant ymgyrchu modern. Mae'n llai na 0.5% o'r hyn y mae'r pleidiau mwyaf yn ei wario mewn etholiadau cyffredinol. Yn 2024 yn unig, derbyniodd pleidiau ledled y DU gyfanswm o bron i £98 miliwn mewn rhoddion. Nid yw £20,000 yn ataliad ystyrlon rhag torri'r rheolau a gellid ei ystyried yn gost arferol o gynnal busnes.

Mae'r llywodraeth yn cynnig cynyddu ein pwerau dirwyo er mwyn sicrhau gorfodi'r rheolau yn fwy effeithiol a chymesur.
