Thea Chops Books

Thea Chops Books Children's author and independent publisher based in South East London, producing inspiring and empowering books, for both boys and girls. Cinderella?

Equality, acceptance, inclusivity. Thea Chops Books believes that all too often, the messages in the stories we read to our children, are outdated and not relevant in a world where men and women are equals. The Princess and the Pea? A story about a young woman, whose future mother-in-law is so disbelieving of her claims of royal status, she forces the young princess to sleep on a pile of mattresses, so high, that if she so much as rolls over in the night, she's looking at multiple bone fractures! The prince doesn't even recognise her once she's changed into day wear, yet one shoe later and she's agreed to live happily ever after! All joking aside, words are powerful, and the messages we send to our children now, will form their characters and stay with them for ever. Thea Chops Books believes in sharing the best messages we possibly can.

I couldnā€™t write it. I thought the block was ā€˜I donā€™t know how to write a story about consentā€™ but the block is ā€˜Iā€™m carrying adult anger into a childrenā€™s bookā€™

Thereā€™s not a week that goes by where I donā€™t read something in the news that makes my blood boil. Misogyny, vawg, it feels like society is going backwards.

And I was looking backwards from adulthood, trying to work out how to write about consent in rhyme, while kids are looking forwards, not yet adults.

Iā€™m thinking about coercion and fear, kids are thinking, donā€™t take my toy. Itā€™s the same lesson! Itā€™s just a bit different for a child.

Iā€™ve realised book 4 isnā€™t about stopping r*pists. No one can write a kids book about that! That burden is too large for one rhyming picture book! But book 4 could help children to understand boundaries.

Perhaps book 4 is about: whatā€™s the first lesson about boundaries that I wish every child learned before they ever got access to the internet.

I think I can write about that.

And as I said in the slides above: if you know any VAs who are killer experts at Ingram Spark or KDP please tag them. The tech is alluding me and I need help!

Also: thoughts on whether people would pre order. But like, with a 6 month waitā€¦ Is there an appetite for a book like this?

Thanks,
Suze

Sometimes, when youā€™re in the business of selling a product (for me itā€™s my award-winning childrenā€™s books), you just gotta accept that your dog is way cuter than you and use him to sell! Look at him! How could you resist that little face?! He wants you to buy a book right?! Now go make him happy! šŸ“š

Add to cart! Go on! Donā€™t do it ā€˜cause you feel sad though. Thatā€™s actually a really bad idea! Do it because our books are award winning. Theyā€™re wonderful to read to and with your children. And theyā€™re filled with messages of equality, and inclusivity, that will encourage children to be themselves. The best thing to be to be truly happy. So go on! Add to cart! Link is in the bio and in stories!

Oh Aurora. You know when he scales the wall, and climbs in your window to kiss you while youā€™re asleep, thatā€™s not romantic honey. Thatā€™s assault.

And let me tell ya: Doug just sleeps all day! He is no help at all!

Raised in a society that expects women to be polite. But driven by a desire to help achieve gender equality, so my daughter and yours, grow up in a more equal world.

Disclaimer: give the book to the kids; not the coffee!

So many myths to dispel! Feminists donā€™t hate men. Boys can cry if they want to. Feminism benefits everyone. And letā€™s stop saying man up shall we; itā€™s at best not useful, at worst, really bloody damaging. Agreed? Fab.

Never not wondering what more I can do to make the world a more equal place for our sons and daughters.
