A little for this Friday.

A stroll through towards the illuminated this gem-London is full of these magical moments of time travel-I never tire of it as a passtime.

Bligh was a complex figure. A skilled administrator, sailor and loathed disciplinarian with a volatile temper, his crew apparently dubbed him 'The Bounty Bastard'. He also served under Nelson and survived 3, 618 nautical miles over 48 days set adrift with his supporters in a Naval launch with only enough water to last a week and no marine chronometer.

It makes the average demands of Monday-Friday seem quite do-able!

He is buried nearby in the church of St Mary at Lambeth.

The autobiography of one of the last standing insiders, 'Fast Tracks and Dark Deals' published by Author Michael Payne this autumn is a surgical dissection of the business of sport and its evolution over the past fifty years from a cottage industry to a trillion-dollar business.

Fast-paced and edgy, it profiles the characters and events which gave birth to sport as a business commodity that was apparently accessible to all. Along the way, readers encounter dazzling highs, glamour and sobering lows. We find how wars, scandals and economic crises threatened to pull the whole spectacle apart.

The story is told from a seat close enough to hear the whispers in the corridors of power yet distant enough to see the broader patterns, the fragile alliances, the unexpected friendships and the bold and often creative ideas which shaped global sport and its sponsorship.

'Fast Tracks and Dark Deals' offers unique business insights from someone who was a major player in many of them, who knew everyone and had been everywhere in the labyrinth of world sport, even the darkest corners. This would interest business scholars, sport fans and creative marketeers alike.

The final part provides a telling and perhaps unsettling prediction for the next fifty years. With forewords from Dr Thomas Bach IOC President and Bernie Ecclestone F1 Supremo

***RELEASED TODAY***

In October 1939, eighteen year old Tony Fowle took a day off school to enlist. Twelve years later, he was a decorated officer in the Royal Artillery winning the Military Cross for gallantry in war-torn Korea. This extraordinary memoir is drawn from Tony's own vivid letters and traces his transformation from raw recruit to seasoned soldier.

In 1942, he narrowly survived the brutal Battle of Knightsbridge in the Western Desert, before an unexpected posting to the the Indian Army opened up a life of astonishing contrasts: desert warfare, Himalayan frontiers and riding with mountain artillery units which seemed torn from the pages of Kipling.

Tony's story is one of personal liberation, loyalty and adventure on a truly global scale. Along the way, it sheds fresh light on two of the 20th century's lesser- known conflicts and on a life lived with
courage and curiosity in equal measure.

Colonel Tony Fowle MC RA, subject of Rupert Willoughby’s new biography, ‘Mountain Gunner’, participated in the battle of ‘Knightsbridge box’, a key part of the larger battle of Gazala (26 May to 21 June 1942).

Fought in the western desert between Erwin Rommel’s Afrika Korps (plus Italian forces), and General Claude Auckinleck’s 8th Army, the disastrous Gazala campaign marked a low point in British-commonwealth fortunes.

Part of the Gazala line, a series of defensive ‘boxes’ defended by brigade groups, and protected by barbed wire and minefields, the ‘Knightsbridge box’ was sited near the Libyan town of Acroma.

Between 10 and 13 June it was attacked relentlessly by the German 15th Panzer and 90th Light Afrika divisions.
Notably, the 2nd RHA, in which Fowle served, supplied vital 25-pounder artillery support to 201st Guards Motorised Brigade Group, part of the 2nd South African division. Yet, by 13 June, the ‘Knightsbridge box’ was virtually surrounded by the Germans, forcing its defenders to withdraw.

Unsurprisingly, this date was referred to in the 8th Army as ‘Black Saturday’ and led to a full-scale retreat to Egypt by 8th Army, as well as the later loss of the vital port of Tobruk.

An important day, on the anniversary of Arnhem landings. And nothing, to me, can be more poignant than that Lt Col John Frost’s hunting horn. Immortalised in ‘A Bridge Too Far’. An inspiration to soldiers then and for all generations.

Released on November 6th 2025, are pleased to announce 'Tamesis' by

This is a lyrical journey along the River Thames, where water, history and humanity interlace in both intimate and expansive verse composed by Edmund Hall, a lifelong sailor and volunteer RNLI lifeboatman.

Hall’s verses capture the river, not as a postcard but as a living, breathing force - by turns majestic, dangerous and tender. His poems flow from the Oxfordshire tributaries to London’s tidal reaches, weaving together personal experience, urban memory, and ancient echoes of the river’s role in shaping lives.

With a foreword by Sir Ian McKellen this collection places the Thames within a cultural and emotional landscape that feels at once timeless and contemporary. Hall’s verse, at times reflective and elegiac, at times raw with grit and immediacy, recalls the everyday realities of service on the lifeboat as much as it celebrates the beauty of a sunset on Barn Elms Reach or the stillness of Sonning’s trout pools.

The river here is never mere scenery - it is character, companion, and witness. The book is illustrated with hand-drawn images inspired by the poems.

Illustrated by Gary Partridge, a Coldstream Guards veteran turned artist, Tamesis pairs the words and emotions of the verses, with a series of unique images inspired by them.

The new novel 'Blood of Orange" by published by

A wounded soldier. A Sicilian farm. A second chance at life....until war's shadow returns. In July 1943, Lieutenant Benedict Kelly, a young British Commando, is left for dead during a daring raid behind enemy lines following the invasion of Sicily when fate intervenes. Found and secretly cared for by a local farmer, his wife, and a village doctor, Kelly survives and is eventually returned to Britain to recover.

Two years later, scarred in body but not in spirit, Ben returns to Sicily in search of the family who saved his life. What he finds is a peaceful farm nestled among blood orange groves, a proud people rebuilding in the wake of war-and Serafina, the farmer's daughter, now a grown woman and trained nurse, whose quiet strength begins to stir something deep within him.

As Ben makes a place for himself in the sun-drenched countryside, he becomes entangled in a very different kind of battle. Beneath Sicily's rustic beauty lies a dangerous undercurrent. There is political unrest, Mafia rivalries, and a deadly he**in smuggling ring that uses blood oranges as its cover.
