Books and culture communications agency FMcM has been appointed as PR agency for the National Year of Reading 2026, a Department for Education initiative in collaboration with the National Literacy Trust.

FMcM will work closely with the National Year of Reading and National Literacy trust teams to deliver an ambitious, inclusive and multi-platform campaign engaging readers, non-readers and communities nationwide.

Late on Friday afternoon – the last Friday before Christmas publishing Whatsapp groups and social media were aflame like a particularly well-doused Christmas pudding. David Walliams had been dropped by HarperCollins after an investigation into allegations of inappropriate behaviour towards young women.

In a statement issued on his behalf, a spokesperson told PA: “David has never been informed of any allegations raised against him by HarperCollins. He was not party to any investigation or given any opportunity to answer questions. David strongly denies that he has behaved inappropriately and is taking legal advice.”

HarperCollins has dropped David Walliams. A company spokesperson said: “After careful consideration, and under the leadership of its new CEO, HarperCollins UK has decided not to publish any new titles by David Walliams.”

Former ceo Charlie Redmayne left HC in October, and was succeeded by Kate Elton.

The Telegraph was the first to report the news, and said it was due to Walliams’ inappropriate behaviour, which the newspaper had started to investigate last year. It revealed that he was at the centre of an investigation last year, following a complaint from a junior employee about his conduct. Sources told The Telegraph that following the investigation, junior staff were kept away from the author, and one employee agreed a settlement and received a five-figure payoff.

Doubleday UK has announced that Nobody’s Girl, the posthumous memoir by Virginia Roberts Giuffre, has sold over 1 million copies worldwide within two months of release. The book was co-written with journalist/writer Amy Wallace.
