The first studio was there.
The bits of classic gear were there.
The idea was there.
Clients were there…
But when it came time to build a website and tell the world about it, there was one small problem:
We didn’t have a proper studio name.
After a few terrible attempts with pen and plasterboard scraps, Kris thought of Richard Magistrado, an old Danish friend, brilliant pianist and composer, and someone with a quiet nerdy love of Norse mythology.
A few minutes later, Richard came back with:
Noatun.
A name from the old Nordic world: Njord’s home by the water, connected to the sea, fertility, prosperity and new life.
For a Danish studio owner from a small island building a recording studio in Hackney, it somehow made perfect sense.
We Englishified it slightly by adding an E at the end - partly as a play on tune.
Some now say Noatunes, some say No Auto-Tune, Noa, Noa Studios…
As we say in Scandinavia: Kært barn har mange navne, a dear child has many names.
Thank you Richard for the name, the story and many years of friendship.
We did ask Richard for his @, but as he put it, finding him online is like catching smoke with your bare hands. - 100% off the grid!
