❌ WARNING: MEDICAL & ANAPHYLAXIS TALK & PICTURES ❌
On Wednesday, I was taken into A&E under the advise of my doctor as I had severe pains in my abdomen and flank. On arrival, I got admitted and the tests began baring being positive on urine tests nothing was flagging. Thoughts were leaning towards kidney stones or an appendicitis but they were ruled out.
Unfortunately, things took a dramatic turn on Thursday night. I went into anaphylaxis, I was two bags of steroids down, on multiple nebulisers of epinephrine, being assessed for intubation (thankfully I didn’t need it as my tongue had swollen and eyes and lips but could still manage breathing with a oxygen mask) and monitored all night.
I couldn’t open my eyes. The swelling just kept going. The nurses were panicking then had to get consultants plus ENTs and an anaesthetist in case I had to be intubated.
Later, the ENT said my nose cavity was so swollen so I need to speak to immunology team next month and see if they can give me anything for that too. As she couldn’t get the camera up my nose to see my airways properly.
Thankfully, I stabilised later that night. However the swelling took time to subside - and the cause or at least suspected cause? Apricot Yoghurt.
So on top of a new trigger we will have to work out plans with the allergy team too.
And too add to it, they couldn’t get down to the root of the pain I originally came in for so I’m now waiting for a cystoscope and talks with my gastro consultant to assess my bladder and bowel again.
Ofcourse, it was deemed safer for me to be in my own safe environment away from foods, smell etc that I’m not triggered by - so for now I’m resting until we work out the next steps and plans ⏰
