Feeling depressed is an understandable and recognised symptom for most stalking victims. One of many symptoms, unfortunately.

Talking therapy, journaling, finding a support group, a local stalking charity or organisation can really help. If you need to don’t be afraid of or ashamed to speak to a healthcare professional. In my experience the NHS are very aware of the impact on stalking victims and have been very supportive.

What have you done to beat your depression?

Sadly the majority of stalkers are organised, calculating and know exactly what they are doing. They want to see you struggling, tired, broken.

I know it’s tough, I know sometimes you don’t want to go outside, I know you may be feeling beaten. If you are in that place right now just pick one thing from the energy givers list and do it for 5 minutes, tomorrow do it for 10 minutes, and if you can, keep going. It’s ok if you have a set back, just know the set back is only temporary.

Keep going. This is their secret, not yours.you have nothing to feel ashamed of ❤️‍🩹

With almost 80% of stalking victims experiencing PTSD symptoms, healing is more often than not a long, slow, drawn out process. From my own experience it’s been a ‘two steps forward, one step back’ kind of a journey.

Healing can happen without us noticing and without fireworks or a graduation certificate. We can notice it in the small day to day moments as we start to reclaim our lives. Our lives probably won’t be the same as they once were, and that’s ok. We have learned and grown from this experience, despite the destruction and chaos forced upon us.

Notice the baby steps and celebrate them, take your time, get the help you need. Surround yourself with people who calm your nervous system. You got this ❤️‍🩹

The opposite of a trigger is a Glimmer.

Try looking for Glimmers when you are out and about to help reset your overwhelmed nervous system and enjoy having people around you who you can share your Glimmers with.

I enjoyed three Glimmers yesterday - a beautiful Collie with piercing blue eyes and a happy smile, fluffy pinks clouds at sunset and the sound of the swallows skydiving and soaring before they headed off to perch.

How about you?

Stalking victims tend not just to worry about their own safety, but of the other people, pets and items around us.

If the stalker knows something is important to you, that may become a target too.

Security planning is important for the people and pets around you too.

This is a warning that things are going to get worse when you finally pluck up the courage to leave.

This is a red flag.

If you hear this , it’s time to find an exit plan. A smooth exit plan, and you might need to seek support, depending on what has happened up until now.

Nothing is going to get better after you hear this kind of talk, you are being manipulated to stay in a relationship through fear of what is coming next. Time to get out.

I don’t know about you but do you feel that the stalking isn’t about love, it’s about hate?

I know all stalkers are different and there are many types of stalkers, but I honestly don’t believe the stalker in my case wanted to love me, he is more obsessed with hating me. Trying to get the authorities to understand that hasn’t always been easy. He loves revenge more than anything.

Does anyone else feel that way or has experienced that feeling?

ptsd.va.gov explain common PTSD symptoms-

Reliving the event (also called re-experiencing symptoms).
Memories of the traumatic event can come back at any time. For example:
You may have nightmares.
You may feel like you are going through the event again.
You may see, hear or smell something that causes you to relive the event. This is called a trauma reminder, cue or trigger.

Avoiding things that remind you of the event. You may try to avoid situations or people remind you of the trauma event. You may even avoid talking or thinking about the event. For example:
You may avoid crowds because they feel dangerous.
You may avoid driving if you were in a car accident or if your military convoy was bombed.
If you were in an earthquake, you may avoid watching movies about earthquakes.
You may keep very busy or avoid getting help so you don't have to think or talk about the event.

Having more negative thoughts and feelings than before the event. The way you think about yourself and others may become more negative because of the trauma. For example:
You may feel numb—unable to have positive or loving feelings toward other people—and lose interest in things you used to enjoy.
You may forget about parts of the traumatic event or not be able to talk about them.
You may think the world is completely dangerous, and no one can be trusted.

You may feel guilt or shame about the event, wishing you had done more to keep it from happening.
Feeling on edge or keyed up (also called hyperarousal). You may be jittery, or always alert and on the lookout for danger. You might suddenly become angry or irritable. For example:
You may have a hard time sleeping.
You may find it hard to concentrate.
You may be startled by a loud noise or surprise.
You might act in unhealthy ways, like smoking, abusing drugs or alcohol, or driving aggressively.

I don’t know about you, but I find Self-Kindness really challenging.

If you are new to this page you won’t know that I fell into a bit of a funk after having to file another police complaint at the end of last year, a funk which has resulted in therapy again. And my therapist wants me to work on being kinder to myself - it’s tough!

I don’t have a lot of free time right now but journaling is really helping, which includes listing 3 things I’m grateful for every day. Catching myself in negative self-talk is becoming easier as a result.

What do you do to show yourself more kindness?

You may have been unlucky enough to witness the stalker making a false report to the police - about you.

In my case the stalker told the police I was living with a guy who was stalking the stalker. Although this was utter nonsense it planted doubt in the investigating officers mind and slowed down investigations. And the only way I could prove I wasn’t living with a stalker stalking the stalker was invite the police over each night at bedtime to check to see if any stalkers were hiding in my wardrobe.

The police have a duty to investigate all counter allegations and they will. And once the police are confident that the allegations are false it isn’t going to look too pretty for the stalker. It would be great to see these stalkers who make false allegations to the police to be charged with wasting police time.

I hope you don’t suffer DARVO at the hands of the stalker and if you do the police are smart enough to realise what is going on.

Just a few stalkers court stories from the last few months where the stalkers are, or were, all police officers.

Great to see that their police colleagues haven’t turned a blind eye and brushed these complaints and investigations under the carpet. The more police officers who can recognise stalking behaviours, and then do something about it, the easier it will be for all stalking victims to find peace.

This is their secret - not yours.

The UK’s new “Right to Know” law is a step forward for stalking victims—especially those targeted by strangers.

While stranger stalkers make up less than 20% of cases—and often involve celebrities—this law highlights the need for better protection for all victims.

Hopeful this opens the door to more support, especially for those dealing with non-celebrity, known-stalker cases that are far more common... and statistically more violent.
