Can you help me?

My dog is so reactive towards other dogs!

Client case study:

Client was becoming increasingly frustrated and concerned about their dogs reactive behaviour so they visited their Vet.

Would getting their dog neutered or spayed help? Would medication?
Vet recommended they seek a behaviourist and recommended they contact me.

Client booked a home behavioural consultation which included:

• Dog’s character, confidence and temperament assessment.
• Social skills tested using my own dogs.
• Full explanation of root cause of behaviour.
• Demonstrations on how to avoid or manage their dog.
• Provided with a working program.
• A written summary report.
• Follow-up review phone call.
• On going support (if required).
• Veterinary practice updated, and copy of report.

Testimonial
"Justin came out to see two of our dogs and clearly understands a dogs psychology extremely well. He explained why dogs behave the way they do and gave us lots of practical ways to try and get on top of some unwanted behaviours. He had so much time and patience to go through things multiple times. Highly recommend!"

Should I rehome my dog?

I don’t know what to do. Can you help me?

This is a question that I’m asked, often on the phone, and prior to meeting the family.

As a general rule, most behaviours can be modified, resulting in the dog becoming calm and balanced. While some struggle with their environment.

However, in my experience, harmony can only be achieved if the client has the capacity and capability to meet the requirements of their dog. And when a dog is displaying aggression, can the risk be safely managed? Hence the owner may fail and not the dog.

Owner education and awareness is crucial. You cannot do this alone, so don’t be hard on yourself. Searching for answers online can be hit or miss, and may even make the situation worse.

That’s why is super important that you receive the following:

✅ An honest initial phone call.
✅ A home visit.
✅ An assessment of your dogs current character, confidence and temperament.
✅ A diagnose of the root cause.
✅ A demonstration and explanation of new ways to communicate with your dog.
✅ A working program to support change.
✅ A written summary report.
✅ And continuous support (perhaps in person) along this journey of modifying the dogs (and your) behaviour and communication skills.

If you’re ready then I’m here to support you.

Did your dog bite you or your child recently?

You are not alone. Families in this situation often feel isolated. However, help, support and solutions are available.

I’m Justin, a dog behaviourist specialising in dogs that react aggressively towards their family, I have helped many families who found themselves in the same position as you.

All too often, it is because us humans apply human logic and reason to the situation or our dog’s behaviour. I teach you what I call “dog logic”.

Human “My dog is resting in the hallway”
Dog “I’m claiming this area in the hallway”

Human “He likes to play with a stick”
Dog “An opportunity to show and remind them….”

By understanding your dog’s thinking and available options, you too can begin to
re-shape your dog’s behaviour resulting in them becoming balanced and calm.

Dog bites: while carrying out your work?

For many customer facing employees such as delivery drivers, home carers, postal staff or trades people - Dog Bites are all too common, and a very real risk!

Beyond the physical injury, lays the mental and emotional trauma which can last a lifetime if left and not satisfactorily addressed and supported.

Does a return to work phone call with occupational health really address it?

There’s a risk of prolonged sickness, reduction of performance and of course loss in revenue and trust in the employer. All creating a financial loss and a reduction in productivity and profit for the company. And that’s without Health and Safety implications or breaches.

When it comes to risk, there is only ever two types: Known and Unknown. That’s why it’s so important for companies to ensure their staff receive the very best training and support.

My employee awareness workshops are tailored so employees can speak openly, and learn. The in-person Q&A element ensures everyone has a chance to be heard and feels confident in performing their role.

It goes beyond the employers Duty of Care; it’s about demonstrating respect, safety and building trust.

Together we can boost productivity, minimise risk and loss of revenue.

For more information please see the attached prospectus and I look forward to hearing from you.

Can you help me?

I believe that real change comes from sharing knowledge, because knowledge creates awareness; and when that is paired with a willingness to engage and explore, positive things happen.

So here’s the challenge:

If you (or your family) are aware of a particularly problematic open space/area for challenging dog behaviour then DM me the details. I’ll aim to visit and connect with local residents and share practical knowledge and tips that can help all.

Ideally, I’m looking for a built-up residential areas rather than vast woodlands….I get lost far too easily 😂

Thank you. And I look forward to hearing from you.

Keep safe everyone -

Wow - What a Day!!

Judging the Loose village dog show 2025 was every bit hard as it was fun!

With 12 group classes, up to 20+ entries 🐶, it proved to be a fantastic event for all. The breed range was wonderful and hearing the owners share their experiences was just brilliant.

There wasn’t just bucket loads of smiles, but also bucket loads of prizes for all, thanks to the kind generosity of Lillico Country Store who sponsored the event. 👏👏👏

A huge thank you to everyone involved, especially Amanda Baker, Pam of Matt Stevens audio and visual, the police cadets and all the wonderful volunteers
🙏🏻👏👏👏

(Photos: Thank you to Dean Johnson for the amazing printed posters, Daniel Peters for your continued support ☺️, and all the participants for allowing the sharing of photo’s. The young handlers are a fantastic credit to their parents!👏🙏🏻)

Don’t crave - create

This is a slogan, and expression, a moto that I’ve held close to my heart and one that I’m more and more sharing with my children as they grow and develop.

In an every evolving world which is learning how to best use, explore or exploit AI and social media, it’s perhaps now more than ever that I look within rather than outward.

Some of you may and heard the phase “No one can be better then you at being you”. So whatever our industry, skill set or job title…..I am me and you are you. Embrace and go get them 👊🏻

Ps. Dogs prefer grass to sofa’s. Just saying. Don’t believe me? Connect. ☺️

A huge thank you to those how were able to join me for another round of dog training, and helping to raise much needed funds for the wonderful Heart of Kent Hospice.

We all have limited time to walk our dogs so during yesterday’s session we looked at how we can mentally and physically stimulate them with things which are in our environment that we’d normally not notice or consider. This keeps the “usual walk” fresh and exciting for the dogs (and us) without having to find more time or walk for longer. And we had the added bonus of trees in bloom! A truly beautiful and rewarding morning.

If you’d like to get involved then I’d love to hear from you Justin Gilmore 🙏🏻😊🐶
