Check this out….🎭 Hever Castle is transforming its grounds into an amazing open-air theatre for “Anne Boleyn: The Musical” this summer. It’s a fantastic opportunity to combine history, culture, and a unique day out with the kids. They’re even building the stage from scratch and creating incredible period costumes.

🕵️‍♂️ Explore a REAL Napoleonic-era fort

Just a stone’s throw from Dymchurch Amusements sits Martello Tower No. 24, a restored 1806 defensive fort built to fend off a Napoleonic invasion! Let the kids climb inside, spot the replica cannon, and imagine what life was like 200 years ago.

🎯 It’s one of only THREE Martello towers open to the public in the UK - and a perfect addition to your family day out at the seaside.

🚫 No parking at the tower, so park in town and stroll over.

💡 Fun fact: It’s made from half a million bricks - and they’re not round, they’re elliptical! 👀

🎉📚 Support an indie bookshop this World Book Day

The anxiety-induced scrabbling for costumes for the kids to wear to school aside, World Book Day is a great idea. Catering for all ages, from toddler to teen, the campaign is designed to get little ones reading. Rather brilliantly, a number of books are made available for just a quid. So a trip to your local indie bookshop is just the ticket to celebrate this weekend.

📍The well-appointed in Whitstable will encourage the kids to browse. There’s also a good selection of games and stationery to be swapped for pocket money.

Down the road, dedicated kids’ bookstore is the obvious go-to (with its cosy reading nooks).

In Margate, don’t miss .

Elsewhere, offers plenty of children’s’ options among its 11,000-strong titles. In Canterbury – which has a wealth of good second-hand bookshops – the stand out is The Chaucer Bookshop. .104 in Rochester has a wonderful selection too.

📖 Remember: Pick up a copy of our book, ‘237 Ideas for Stuff to Do and Places to Go in Kent with Kids’ while the kids have a browse.

📖 True story: You can of course put your £1 token towards a full-price book instead.

📖 Take your time: Browse, stay a while – and make sure you buy something to help support local indie bookshops.
