Veteran Pakistani bowler Mohammad Amir has been signed as an overseas player by English county Derbyshire.
The county, led by former Pakistan coach and South African-Australian cricketer Mickey Arthur, made the announcement via social media.
Derbyshire, taking to Twitter, wrote: "Derbyshire have signed former Pakistan fast bowler, Amir, as an overseas player for the first half of the 2024 season."
Earlier, English media reported that Amir would be signed as a local player.
According to The Telegraph, Amir, 31, who took retirement from international cricket in 2020, is set to acquire his UK citizenship next year due to his marriage to a British national, Narjis Khan.
Amir has experience playing county cricket. He has represented Essex and Gloucestershire in the past. Now, the pacer will mark his return with Derbyshire after sealing the deal with the county club.

The Pakistan Petroleum Dealers Association (PPDA) on Thursday announced shutting down fuel pumps across the country on July 22, demanding an increase in profit margins amid an inflation crisis.
"We will shut down all petrol pumps across Pakistan on July 22, 6pm," said the association, which further says it has more than 10,000 members.
In a statement, the association said the petroleum minister was informed about their concerns but to no avail.
The official communique said interest rates and inflation have hit operators' businesses and called for the dealership margin to be increased.
It said sales have slumped by 30% due to Iranian fuel being smuggled into the country.
"Around 8,000-9,000 (operators) ... represented by us, will be shut on July 22," Abdul Sami Khan, chairman of the association, told Reuters.

British-born actor and singer Jane Birkin, a 1960s wildchild who became a beloved figure in France, has died in Paris aged 76.

The French Culture Ministry said the country had lost a “timeless Francophone icon”.

Local media reported she had been found dead at her home, citing people close to her. Birkin had a mild stroke in 2021 after suffering heart problems in previous years.

Birkin was best known overseas for her 1969 hit in which she and her then-lover, the late French singer and songwriter Serge Gainsbourg, sang the sexually explicit ‘Je taime…moi non plus’.

She had lived in her adopted France since the late 1960s and apart from her singing and roles in dozens of films, she was a popular figure for her warm nature, stalwart fight for women’s and LGBT rights.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department's (PMD) forecast Wednesday indicated more monsoon rains from July 13 to 17, with occasional gaps.

According to the Met Office, monsoon currents from the Arabian Sea are likely to pe*****te the country's upper and central parts from the evening of July 12, which are likely to intensify on July 14.

It added that a westerly wave is expected to enter the upper parts on July 14's evening or night.

The Met department mentioned that rain alongside wind and thundershower (with few heavy falls) is expected in Kashmir's Neelum valley, Muzaffarabad, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, Haveli, Sudhanoti, Kotli, Bhimber, Mirpur, as well as other cities including Murree, Galliyat, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Jehlum, Mandi Bahauddin, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Kasur and Okara from July 12's evening and/or night) to July 17, with occasional gaps.

A local court in Lahore Tuesday ordered Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) President Chaudhry Parvez Elahi's release on bail in the money laundering case of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) against him.
The order was passed by a special court over the bail application of the former Punjab chief minister, who had been arrested by the FIA for alleged money laundering.
The court ordered Elahi to submit a surety bond of Rs500,000 against the bail.
Judge Aslam Gondal of the Banking Offenses Court issued the verdict and grilled the FIA for adopting a non-cooperative attitude.

Pakistan has received $2 billion from Saudi Arabia, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar announced Tuesday, a major development for the cash-bleeding nation struggling to meet external payments.

Multilateral and bilateral funds were a major obstacle in the way of Pakistan's deal with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) — which remained stalled for more than nine months and expired.

Islamabad then signed a short-term IMF deal on June 30 under a standby arrangement that will disburse $3 billion over a nine-month period, subject to approval by the IMF's board, which is meeting on July 12.

Standard Chartered has predicted that the value of Bitcoin — the top cryptocurrency — can surge up to $50,000 this year and $120,000 by the end of 2024, Reuters reported.

The bank predicted that the surge in the rate of the cryptocurrency could prompt bitcoin 'miners' to hoard more of the supply.

Standard Chartered published a $100,000 end-2024 forecast for bitcoin back in April on the view the so-called "crypto winter" was over, but one the bank's top FX analysts, Geoff Kendrick, said there was now 20% "upside" to that call.

"Increased miner profitability per BTC (bitcoin) mined means they can sell less while maintaining cash inflows, reducing net BTC supply and pushing BTC prices higher," Kendrick said in a report.
