Oasis legend Liam Gallagher has made a very special announcement today as he issued a rallying cry for the working class 🙌

The rock 'n' roll star has confirmed he is to become a new ambassador for the Manchester-based charity Brighter Sound.

The charity aims to help young people, emerging artists and future professionals find their way in the music industry, particularly those who might otherwise face barriers to get started.

Liam, who grew up with brother Noel in Burnage, says in announcing his new role he aims to support the arts and people from working class roots like himself.

Liam said: "I'm honoured to be an Ambassador for Brighter Sound and support the new generation of creatives launch their music projects."

He added: "We need more help for the arts, especially for the working class."

The film features an exclusive, reimagined performance of ‘Rhythm is a Mystery’ by Paul Roberts, Russ Morgan, and Bobbi Depasois.

The Grammy nominated producers & DJs reflect on their incredible 35 year career, & the beginnings of K-Klass, including taking demo tapes to the Eastern Bloc record shop on Oldham Street, hearing their track being played by Graeme Park in The Hacienda for the first time & playing Top of The Pops.

I’ve always been fascinated by songs.
Not just how they sound... but what they really mean.
When I first started thinking about what kind of music series I wanted to create...

The idea was actually rooted in my childhood, and something quite simple....

As an angsty teen I’d ‘revise’ songs I loved when the lyrics were printed in Smash Hits and record the Non Stop Top 20 (Red Rose Radio/RockFM) sticking sellotape over the holes in the top of music cassettes my mum had lying around (sorry mum...)

My brother and I poured over interviews with our favourite bands in NME, to find out what their songs really meant, wondering what had happened in someone’s life that made them write those words, and what the moment was that turned an idea into a finished track.

So when the chance came to create a music series for StreamGM, I kept coming back to that curiosity, the same curiosity I still have now at nearly 50.

The format is simple:

One song. One story. All Manchester.

Manchester: Unplugged gives local songwriters the space to properly talk about their music. The creative process, the graft behind the scenes, and sometimes the reality of how hard it can be to bring a song to life… and *why* that song needed to exist in the first place.

Since launching in September, my four films featuring K-Klass, Freequency3, The Covasettes & Salo have now reached almost 100,000 viewers on YouTube, and there’s loads of great comments and positive feedback on each one!

Huge thanks to my talented Unplugged crew, the brilliant artists who trusted me with their songs and stories, and to everyone who’s watched, shared or supported the series so far.

“It’s special coming back to the Baronial Hall… I was so young, really nervous… and I got a standing ovation. I was proper buzzing”

We brought Salo back to the Baronial Hall at Chetham’s, a historic room known for classical music, and a place where she once performed recitals as a young child.

That standing ovation is a special memory for Salo ❤️

This is the trailer - the film features the incredible Salford-based artist Salo, & it’s a proper “made in Manchester” story…❤️

Filmed across some of the city’s most loved music institutions, & rooted in the idea that Manchester continues to be a place where musical talent can grow through community, graft and belief.

Salo is classically trained & blends soulful songwriting with slices of jazz, jungle and drum & bass to create a sound that’s both technically sharp and emotionally open.

She arrived in the city as a young asylum seeker (her family fled Georgia following the collapse of the Soviet Union) and she speaks candidly about what it was like growing up here, how Greater Manchester nurtured her talent, and how she’s built confidence as a fiercely independent, self-producing artist.
