Every diamond needs a shuttler.

Per FBref, he still finished with 250 goals and 238 assists across 756 appearances - because the role he played has almost nothing to do with technique.

A Raumdeuter reads space. He moves AWAY from the ball into pockets that open between centre-back and fullback, or between defensive midfielder and back line. He is the last runner in the move, not the first. His value is anticipation, not ex*****on.

The system creates the space. Wide forwards hold width. The striker pins centre-backs. A pocket opens. The Raumdeuter arrives there before defenders register he was running.
