Positive Media Company has made the difficult decision to close The Big Cheese Radio and 80's Mixtape as a result of music licence fees becoming far too expensive and increasingly difficult to cover. These costs are essential to legally operate music-based stations, but the scale of recent increases has made long-term sustainability no longer possible for us.
We carefully explored alternative ways to keep the stations alive, including the introduction of a voluntary monthly Patreon-style subscription to maintain an ad-free listening experience. Unfortunately, even with strong community support, this model would not have been enough to offset the rising licensing and operational costs. Continuing under these conditions would place unreasonable financial strain on the organisation as a whole.
We are incredibly grateful to everyone who listened, shared feedback, and supported The Big Cheese Radio and 80's Mixtape over the years. While radio as a medium has shifted and become less relevant for younger audiences, these stations were a joyful and meaningful chapter for us. We had an absolute blast while it lasted, and we thank you sincerely for being part of the journey.
