Hattie Pearson's uni mates would roll in from a night out, only to see her leaving the house at the same time, dressed head to toe as a monkey, off to cycle across Manchester for work 🙈

Why? Because, as any radio rookie knows, that’s exactly the kind of nonsense they inflict on the newbies...

She's since climbed her way out of the monkey suit and is now a presenter on KISSTORY 🍌

Radio presenter, athlete, the provider of our fact of the week... Hattie Pearson is here!

She started out reading the news in French in Senegal at 18, before she could speak the local dialect. Then she spent a chunk of her early career dressed as various animals, Pudsey Bear one year, an XFM ticket monkey cycling across Manchester at 5am the next.

Now she's on KISSTORY, and somewhere along the way she became a Nike-sponsored athlete who went zero to Ironman in nine months.

🐶 Sam Jones' dog Liska came from Dogs 4 Rescue . So has every dog he's fostered. This episode, he finally got founder Emma Billington on to talk about how it all began.

It started with a noise from a neighbour's garden. Emma found their Staffy, Lucky, chained to concrete, started walking her, took extra time off work to see her, eventually quit her job entirely. Lucky became her whole life 🍀

Everything she built since – the UK's first kennel-free rescue, a 40-acre site crowdfunded in a month, thousands of dogs rehomed – she puts down to that one dog.

Tom Cheesewright's daughter cut up the washing machine to make a car battery. She was ten.

Tom had been working with Ford on the future of electric vehicles, which meant a lot of YouTube car content. His daughters saw a 1950s roadster and decided they wanted one.

Those go for about half a million quid, so they did the next logical thing and got hold of a written-off BMW, parts from a Prius and a Dodge, and started building.

Fifteen months later, it passed its MOT.

Tom joins Sam to talk futures, Ford, and how lockdown accidentally turned his kid into a welder.

Thom Hetherington ran the first ever 50 Best Restaurants in the World awards. To open it, he booked James Bond 🏆

Well, Roger Moore, technically. His son helped bring him in for a light welcome, a few warm words for a room full of the world's best chefs.

Moore used his moment to talk about the amazing charity work he did with UNICEF, and it was serious, weighty stuff. It was great, but Thom was concerned.

How do you follow an awards do about food after that? He ended up outside, taking a few minutes to compose himself.

Turns out the next morning, every national paper covered the awards, discussing the evening and the brilliant work of UNICEF 🗞️

I met David Nolan when he was my University Lecturer. If I questioned something he was saying, he would ask me how many Royal Television Awards I have (it's 0) and then tell me how many he has (it's 5)... Since then, he's had a huge influence over my career.

He's a multi-award author, journalist, filmmaker and radio producer and loves an all-you-can-eat buffet. In this episode, we discuss how luck has been on his side throughout the different sections of his career and there's some belting stories about being a young reporter in dangerous and exciting times, annoying Morrissey, and trusting your gut.
