I have no idea why people say your 40s and 50’s are so hard. Honestly, it’s really quite simple.
You just need to eat enough protein but also make sure you’re not obsessing over protein.
Lift heavy weights, but also prioritise cardio, but also don’t overdo it, but also make sure you’re progressive overloading.
Try to reduce stress.
While also working, parenting, caring for ageing parents, managing a household, and holding everyone’s emotional load.
Very relaxing.
Get 10,000 steps a day—but don’t walk too much because you should preserve your joints.
Build muscle—but don’t get bulky.
Stay slim—but don’t focus on weight.
Care about health—but don’t diet.
Make it a lifestyle—but also try harder.
Get enough sleep—it’s crucial.
But also accept waking up at 3am wide awake and wondering if this is your life now.
Prioritise sleep hygiene, but don’t stress about sleep because that stops you sleeping.
Support your hormones—but also ignore your hormones because “it’s just ageing.”
Track your symptoms—but not too much tracking.
Go to your GP—but don’t expect certainty.
Ask questions—but don’t be “difficult.”
Drink more water.
Eat more fibre.
Focus on gut health.
But not too much gut health or you might end up anxious about your gut health.
Be confident in your body—while noticing every change your body makes.
Stay positive—but allow yourself to feel everything.
Give yourself grace—but also keep it all together.
Move your body daily—but rest if you’re tired.
But don’t rest too much or you’ll lose muscle.
But don’t train too hard or you’ll lose your mind.
Look after your skin.
But don’t try to look younger.
Age gracefully—but also reverse the signs of ageing, but naturally, but effectively, but minimally, but visibly.
And don’t forget:
You’re in your prime.
But also invisible.
But also thriving.
But also exhausted.
But also becoming your most authentic self.
But also wondering who you are now.
Support your mental health.
But don’t make everything about hormones.
But also remember everything is affected by hormones.
Stay social—but protect your peace.
Set boundaries—but don’t be “selfish.”
Be available to everyone—but prioritise yourself.
But also don’t let anyone down.
Love your body exactly as it is—but improve it.
Embrace change—but don’t change too much.
See? Your 40s/50’s are easy.
If you reached here 1 you know I’m joking - but humour helps at times.
This season is a LOT — and if you’re navigating perimenopause/Menopause and reading this without glasses on - you are smashing it! 😎
