A possible Earth twin… just 146 light years away
Astronomers have identified a new exoplanet candidate, HD 137010 b, an Earth sized world orbiting a K dwarf star, and it could be one of the closest planets we’ve found that resembles our own.
There’s about a 50 percent chance it lies in the habitable zone, the region where liquid water could exist. That’s what makes it exciting.
But there’s a catch.
Even if it is Earth like, current estimates suggest surface temperatures could be around minus 70°C, meaning it may be far colder than our planet.
And the distance puts things into perspective.
At 146 light years away, even a spacecraft traveling at Voyager’s speed would take over 2.5 million years to get there.
What this really means is simple.
We’re getting better at finding worlds like Earth…
but reaching them is still far beyond us.
For now, these planets remain not destinations…
but glimpses of what else might exist in the universe. Omg 😲
