I have been playing about with a new technique using gripper leads while targeting specimen chub on the Ribble and getting some good results with it! I have also recently upgraded my filming setup to attempt to give my viewers enhanced movie quality footage and better shots, tomorrow nights video is the first time using the setup out on the river, its launching tomorrow evening at the usual time of 16:30 GMT!

I have just given my speedmaster rods a dust of and clean. After becoming a fishing YouTuber I have bought and tested maybe 15+ different feeder rods and these are still my favourite. Stood up to all the abuse I could throw at them and landed hundreds of double figure carp over the years. Yet they are a sensitive rod ideal for small silvers, I will be using them in this year’s winter fishing and putting my guru n-gauge pro on the shelf. This winter I will be focusing a classic subtle approach to my fishing with cage feeders and float being my weapons of choice.

After owning their carp rods and having 2 of 2 break and not receiving any customer service response I promised myself I’d never buy another product again! However I was swayed by the price point of their heavy bait casting setup. There isn’t a huge choice on the market. I needed something to throw big heavy lures around for pike! Let’s see if it’s up to the job… finished off with some manly 65lb pink braid to match the theme of the rod and reel of course 🤣

Lure fishing is certainly not easy on north west canals you really need to put the hours in to be successful, so when it all comes together it’s very rewarding. Thank you to those of you who watched and commented on last nights upload! I have been busy!! Another video is coming later this week with some more underwater footage… Next Tuesday’s upload is the 300th video on the channel and the start of a new journey on the road to all round angling. Variety is the spice of life and my promise to you is the channel will never get stagnant, however the format of the videos will always remain the same because it’s my style… longer videos packed with information, tips, wildlife and a few laughs and jokes along the way.

I don’t mind tying my own rings and I could have just as easily tied some up for my first sea fishing session but it’s sometimes good to buy pre-tied rigs so you can replicate them yourselfs. This goes for carp rigs as well. My problem is I’m now spoiled for choice… which two would you use first? I’m thinking a flatfish rig and one of the bigger rigs for the chance of a dog fish ? Let me know!

People have been asking which rods I have opted for on my beach casting adventures. I went for a pair of Penn tidal XR in 13 ft. While there are longer options and lighter options I think these rods will give me the best all round performance and bridge the gap into the world of long range casting. There are a hell of a lot more things to take into account than coarse fishing but I’m enjoying the research. While pier fishing would be the easiest place to start it’s not the best for filming and can get busy. I don’t like filming around people makes me anxious. I have decided to find some quiet costal spots next week and have a go away from the crowds and get used to the tides even if I don’t catch anything! Of course I will be filming. Tight lines all, take care 💪🏻🎣
