The Moog Ta**us II was manufactured between 1981 and 1983, following its legendary predecessor, the Ta**us I. Unlike the integrated design of the original, the Ta**us II featured a separate, raised synthesizer module and an 18-note pedalboard, making it much easier to control onstage. The Ta**us II was a relatively short-lived model. Its engine was based on the monophonic Moog Rogue analog synthesizer, with two VCOs for sawtooth and square waves, a 24dB/octave low-pass filter, and dedicated CV/Gate outputs, allowing it to control other synths!
The Ta**us II was used by Rick Wakeman (Yes) and Mike Rutherford (Genesis) who experimented with it in the studio, sometimes pairing it with a Moog Source. It’s also been used by Phil Collins, Jean Michel Jarre and LCD Sound System. The foot-controlled synth gave musicians a way to layer in thick, driving bass lines and lead sounds without sacrificing their hands for other instruments.
