member Rebecca Gatley has been working as a Production Runner for our client
on their Women’s Euros coverage - see below for Rebecca’s highlights of the role and getting her first TV screen credit! 👇

“Working for this team for the past month has been incredible to say the least 🙌

Here’s what I got up to:

*Made dozens of teas
*Collected approx. 80 Wagamama’s orders (yes 80!)
*Looked after the brilliant presenters and pundits
*Handed out team sheets and running orders
*Dished out hundreds of sweets (Squashies and Wine Gums go down best 😉)
*I even got to practise on the cameras! (Thank you to John, Chris and Kirsty)
*Spoke to everyone I could about their time and experience in the industry

Thank you to SharpFutures for the opportunity and thank you to the team at Sunset+Vine and BBC Studios for having me and sharing your knowledge!

Also a big thank you to Leila Sabatti for all your support and encouragement 🫶

It’s been amazing to see all the hard work that goes into live shows and has only fuelled my passion for the TV industry more!

Yes I may have shed a little tear at my name on the credits as 2022 Rebecca, fresh out of University with no idea how to get in the industry would be proud 🫶 My first professional credit!!

I can’t wait to see what’s in store next! 🎥 ⚽️ 🏆 ”

Last week was the completion of a 30-week creative digital work placement we hosted for 7 students from the Destiny Pathways / New Bridge Foundation with a series of presentations and reflection on a journey that has seem the group develop not just technical, creative and digital skills but also their employability, workplace and confidence through the programme.

It’s a busy time of year so not everyone could attend but was great to hear the final program review presentations from Max, Gian, Jonny & Harrison - Oliver, Waj and Edward were there in spirit!

We’ll share further details of the work placement over the next week but in the meantime, well done to everyone involved & thank you to the teams at New Bridge Academy & SharpFutures for supporting such an important and successful project!

Last week we hosted a Games Jam for first-year students on the gaming & VFX courses at The two-day Jam focused on the students responding to creative briefs around a series of game concepts across RPG, FPS and racing formats. Each group, a mix of gaming & VFXstudnets, were challenged to design a visual creative, game play system and world building overview then present it at the end of the Jam.

Simon Smith, Co-founder & Creative Director of Ludo Gamelabs, started the Jam with an overview of his career and of the Manchester and wider UK gaming sector, adding some key tips on how pitching works in the games industry, from his own experience.

Despite only having two days to work together, the students’ game concepts were all produced to an extremely high quality with a lot of original creative thinking, unique concepts and visual ideas - it was great to see such a variety of responses.

The Jam finished with presentations delivered by each team to Simon, the team and the other VFX & gaming students, with industry-level feedback for each group.

We really enjoyed hosting the Jam and meeting the students - thank you to Mohit, Geo, Charlotte & Vanessa for facilitating, Simon Smith for providing such brilliant industry insight and the students for delivering such excellent game concepts 🕹️ 🎶 🎬

Over the past three weeks we have hosted the ‘Creative Digital Experts’ work placement for students from the The Manchester Metropolitan University’s RISE programme, on-site at The Sharp Project

The placement was facilitated by Helen Blair and featured a wide range of workshops, presentations & practical briefs delivered by Helen, Morgan Busow, Victoria Goodwin, Esther Chukwukelu, Ihtezaz Anwar, Kian & Tom Clarke

Over the three weeks the students learnt a wide variety of creative, digital and workplace skills that they then developed in collaborative groups to produce and deliver pitches in response to set briefs around creating a concept for a creative digital business alongside a website, comms, visual identity and social media content.

The final presentations were all amazing, we were all hugely impressed by each group’s originality and industry-standard presenting alongside the brand concepts and business plans.

A huge thank you to all the students who participated in the placement - we wish you all the best of luck in your next career steps and sure you will be hugely successful whatever you chose to do!

Thank you to Adam Hugill and the team for supporting the placement and we look forward to working together again in the future.

Yesterday we hosted a group of students from The University of Manchester as they visited as part of the ‘Behind Manchester’s Doors’ progamme, organised by the Careers team 🎥 🙌 🎬

‘Behind Manchester’s Doors’ is an opportunity for students to find out more about the different industries and workplaces across the city. We talked to the group about the creative digital sector, career pathways, job roles and how Manchester is a key hub for TV production.

Morgan then hosted a workshop on her role as social media lead for our client with a Q&A on her career and creative work. Ihtezaz & Kian then ran a careers quiz (something they’ve coded up for workshop use) so the students could identify potential career opportunities.

It was a great group, really engaged and asking lots of questions so a pleasure to host - thank you all involved.
