Imran Hussain MP, Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Kashmir and Member of Parliament for Bradford West, has asked the UK Government to allocate parliamentary time for a debate on the alarming human rights situation and reported violations in Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
The responding minister told Parliament that the Government would contact the Bradford West MP shortly regarding the possibility of a Westminster Hall debate or an Adjournment debate.

mran Hussain MP, Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Kashmir and Member of Parliament for Bradford West, has called on the UK Government to provide parliamentary time for a debate on the reported human rights violations and deteriorating situation in Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
Raising the matter in Parliament, Mr Hussain drew the Government’s attention to the continuing situation in the territory and argued that reports concerning human rights required serious scrutiny and parliamentary discussion.
In response, the relevant minister informed the House that the Government would contact the Member for Bradford West shortly to discuss the possibility of securing either a Westminster Hall debate or an Adjournment debate.
A Westminster Hall debate would allow MPs from different political parties to discuss the issue and receive a formal ministerial response. An Adjournment debate would enable an individual MP to raise the matter directly and require the responsible government minister to answer on the parliamentary record.
If secured, the debate would bring the situation in Azad Jammu and Kashmir formally before the UK Parliament and provide an opportunity for MPs to question the Government about its assessment, diplomatic engagement and proposed response.
