🇫🇷 Maíson De L'horreur 🇫🇷

Deep in the French countryside sits a house that locals have come to know as Maison de l'Horreur The House of Horror.

Abandoned for many years, this once-proud home now stands frozen in time. Dust covers every surface, personal belongings remain exactly where they were left, and the silence inside is almost overwhelming.

During our exploration, we uncovered evidence suggesting the former owner may have served as a police officer and was awarded a distinguished medal during the 1960s. Photographs, documents and personal effects offer a fascinating glimpse into a life that has long since disappeared.

But why was the house abandoned?

Why was so much left behind?

And what happened to the people who once called this place home?

🇵🇹 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑴𝒂𝒏𝒐𝒓 𝒐𝒇 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑮𝒐𝒍𝒅𝒆𝒏 𝑲𝒏𝒊𝒈𝒉𝒕 🇵🇹

While exploring the forgotten backroads of northern Portugal, Urbex Uncovered discovered an extraordinary 16th-century granite manor hidden behind overgrown gates and slowly being reclaimed by nature.

Abandoned since the late 1990s, this remarkable ancestral home once belonged to Pedro and Maria, a respected noble family whose history stretches back centuries. When their daughter moved to Dallas, Texas, the family followed, leaving behind a lifetime of memories and a home filled with history.

Stepping inside feels like travelling back in time. Family photographs, handwritten letters, heraldic documents and personal belongings remain exactly where they were left, offering a rare glimpse into a bygone era.

One of the most incredible discoveries was a magnificent suit of golden armour standing proudly in the music room, believed to have been passed down through generations. The manor also contains its own private chapel, reflecting the family's faith, heritage and social standing.
From the documents we uncovered, Pedro was a director of several companies and held the title of Knight of Honour and Devotion. Maria later opened the manor as a venue for weddings and special events, breathing new life into the historic estate before the family eventually settled abroad.
Although the property remains in their ownership today, the manor stands empty, frozen in time as nature slowly takes hold.

Hidden deep within the Portuguese countryside stands an elegant mansion slowly being reclaimed by time…

Behind its fading façade and overgrown gardens lies a home frozen in another era. Ornate chandeliers still hang from the ceilings, antique furniture remains untouched, and the family piano sits silent as though it was only played yesterday.

Clues scattered throughout the house suggest the owners may once have had ties to Brazil — perhaps a family who returned to Portugal after building a life overseas. But today, their story remains largely forgotten.

Every room feels suspended in time, filled with memories, portraits and possessions left exactly where they once belonged.

🇧🇫 The Green Palace 🇵🇹

Forgotten Portuguese Mansion

Hidden within a sleepy Portuguese village, this powering green-tiled mansion immediately stood out from the surrounding homes in more ways than one…

The abandoned home rises above its neighbours, partially hidden behind an overgrown jungle-like garden that slowly continues to consume the property from every direction.

But inside tells a completely different story.

Through the doors of this forgotten home, it feels as though the family may have only left yesterday. The elegant rooms remain beautifully preserved, still filled with heirlooms, furniture, photographs, and memories left behind by the people who once called this place home.

As we explored deeper into the mansion, we observed every room hoping to uncover more about the family’s story. Who were they? What were they known for? And most importantly… why did they leave everything behind?

The age of the possessions scattered throughout the house reveals the truth — nobody has lived here for many years. Yet somehow, this incredible place remains almost untouched. Perhaps it has been protected by its hidden location, towering boundary walls, and dense overgrown garden that keeps the outside world away.

🇧🇪 Masíon Cactus 🇧🇪

We recently explored this beautiful abandoned house, and honestly, it was incredible. Both the outside surroundings and the interior were stunning.

What immediately caught our attention were the cactuses everywhere especially the huge cactus inside the property! 🌵 Even the downstairs bedroom was filled with them, clearly the owner was a serious cactus lover. 🤭

There’s very little vandalism here, but the house has definitely been abandoned for a long time. We even found a newspaper dating back to 2004, frozen in time inside the home.

🚩 The Hunters House 🚩

🚫Abandoned Horror Hospital 🚫

Abandoned since 1991 this hospital located in a Small Portuguese village was the place to go for the locals carrying out all sorts of procedures.

After 25 years of operation and a conflict between the Doctors the place unfortunately closed and has remained sealed and abandoned ever since.

It was like a horror movie set inside full of 80s medical equipment with everything left inside even doses still in syringes and medicine left on the shelves!

That chair ... its uneasy to see and a sharp, hard reminder of how medicine and ethical practice has changed in the last 30 years.

This was urbex to its finest - a place you can't forget !
